My first pics with the D800

As can be expected, the files from the D800 sensor (& to be fair, from most of the current Sony derived sensors out there) lends itself well to heavy pp. The example here shows how well the details in shadow areas can be recovered.

Thanks for sharing. There is indeed a lot of potential to recover from poorly exposed photos with the example you illustrated here.

It's nearly 5 months on since I got the D800 but am still amazed by it's capabilities from time to time.

Below is a shot of MBS from the Bay grandstand taken yesterday night at about 8.30pm. So it's already dark but thanks to the excellent DR, was able to pick up lots of details

Lens used is the 70-200 VRII coupled to the TC14EII. Handheld. ISO4000. No noise reduction applied.

So can imagine what is possible if mounted on tripod and low ISO

@ atvinyl - Nice clean shots. Great DOF and plenty of details with the E & the Distagon. Thanks for sharing.

Very very nice shot at ISO 6400. Zeiss + D800 power.

Thanks. Always nice to share.

I AM a D300s ...

I own 3 FX lens. Can't decide whether there's a need to upgrade.
Would love to experience full-frame thou ... :(

But now you have 2 choices d600 & d800/E :)

I know D800/e has the largest pixel count.
But, will PQ drops if you shot the smallest (3680 x 2456) image size

@atvinyl ... did you do any sharpening here?
details are so freakin awesome ... \(^o^)/

Yes it is sharpened slightly by using Unsharp Mask in Photoshop. I use 113% sharpening, 2.0 pixel radius and threshold of 5. Not sure if that is optimum. I just use trial and error.

My photo is already downsized to only 25% of its original resolution, so it is at 3600 x 2400. So if you are not blowing it up to crazy sizes there will hardly be any difference in PQ between D600 or D800E.

The big differences are really the fps, the semi pro or pro built, level of customization, AF modules. So mainly the tools to get the picture and not the picture itself. Even the dynamic range of both cameras are very close.

The huge no of pixels can be handy if you do difficult street shots and need to crop aggressively. Obviously the higher the pixel count the better you can crop.

To complete the "story", here is another photo of the same scene but taken in the afternoon of Sep 23. It was a hazy afternoon and the light was grey and flat. So not the best for a nice photo but I think it gives prospective buyer/user an idea of what is possible from the D800/70-200mm VRII/TC-14EII combination.

I have included the photos posted previously for easy comparison. Have to say that what the D800 can produce at night is simply fantatstic. One night when I have time, will mount on tripod and shoot low ISO and see what I can capture :bsmilie:

Night Photo @ 8.35 pm ISO4000 F4.0 Handheld. No noise reduction applied.

Bro, seems like D800 can turned u into a private investigator...hahha

Hehe.Yes! I accidently picked up a very interesting image from one of the rooms. I won't post it here. The simple morale of the story is to make sure the curtains are drawn if doing anything saucy ;)

No big deal actually. A sub $1000 camera also can do the same. Handheld too:bsmilie::bsmilie:

Emm, yours seems over sharpen by the way, people's one is sooc. Also, when you take got no haze leh, it's quite hazy when zoom3 was taking the pic if I am not wrong.

I don't know what's your intention but you have been coming to threads to thrash the cameras. School holiday now meh??? :dunno:

Well I agree "maybe" a sub 1k cam do the "almost" same thing but given a choice I will always pick a h&k mp5 rather then a kitchen knife anyday . Thank u .
