The EXIF info is available in the description of the photos

Cos I borrowed a 70-300mm Nikkor lens on a Canon body using a Nikon to Canon adaptor. That does not include the AF chip, so MF loh. The MF damn tricky, cos have to shift it less than 1mm per time, like nudging the focusing ring.

Yup, definitely have to use tripod.

Here's what I got last night

Shutter speed is 1/100, ISO is 50.

Lightroom does s**t to my photos, here is a repost from direct processing from Canon zoombrowser.

Nice, I like it.

hi, i would like to ask what lens is being used to take this shot? cos i tried using a 70~300mm canon on 1000d but just couldn't zoon in and see so clearly. but now i just started using nikkon d700 and haven'tgot alot of lenses yet and in the process of learning. tks for sharing :)

I am using a Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6D ED Manual Focus cos I am using on a 5DMk2 via a adapter ring that does not have the AF chip. I use Live View mode, 10x zoom to focus and then wait for the vibration to settle and use a IR remote to snap the pic. A tripod is a must and since the moon is near zenith, I sat on the ground, under the tripod, and adjusted the tripod's height so that the Live View is within 10cm away from my eyes in order to do MF. And when I am doing MF, i will look at a crater to set focus. But I think you'll do better cos you are using a Canon lens.

From Weixing of SingAstro said:
Anyway, below are some shutter speed guide for your reference when shooting Moon using f5.6 @ ISO 100 (use manual mode and the ignore camera metering):
1) Thin Crescent Moon - 1/30s
2) Wide Crescent Moon - 1/60s
3) Quarter Phase Moon - 1/125s
4) Gibbous Moon - 1/250s
5) Full Moon - 1/500s

Some latest pictures that I took 2-3 nights ago.

4070855363_ceb92ffb1a.jpg

ISO 50, f/5.6, 1/200 shutter speed. Full EXIF

4070855895_c462b578b2.jpg

ISO 50, f/5.6, 1/250 shutter speed. Full EXIF

You can see that since my ISO is 50% of what weixing has recommended, therefore the shutter speed is also halved.

Hope it helps. Do post ur pictures!

Oh my, you are getting better my friend.

This is mine. Shot long time ago using digiscoping technique.
Dlux 4 + C90Mak Celestron 1000mm telescope.
If I'm not wrong at ISO100

After PP

May I know what kind of PP did you do to get from a flat looking pic to a pic with more 3D-ism?

Cos most like next month on, i'll be shooting thru a Meade LX50 2025mm SCT. So I just I will need to do the same PP you did.

Do share info.

You have to play around with layering.
One of the layer I use emboss
Another layer just give a bit of unsharp mask, play around with the amount & radius.
need to change the layer mode also.
As i remember the work flow of the PP

Hmm, using emboss might not be the correct representation of the moon's surface. That is my personal opinion, do correct me if I am wrong.

Don't know if there any appropriate way of doing it. Its up to individual ways of enhancing.
Do share if you have a better way of doing it.

I am also not sure of any perfect way to do it except to take the pic perfectly. Hee hee.

Anyway, the reason why I prefer not to trust software emboss is that the software might not know what it is embossing. A crater might turn out to be a plateau. Look at the bottom right hand crater of you embossed picture. It looks like its a plateau where it should be a shallow crater instead.

I am not expert cos i am still learning to take good moon pics but its what I see from your pics.

this is my shot using a mewlon 210 with d200 ...

Schiller.jpg

Location on Moon is Schiller Crater...( the elongated crater ) ;)
