Wow! it looks nice! I am looking forward to take a pic like tat.

This is nothing...You should visit Singastro ...

http://www.singastro.org/

Weixing is a super moderator there...you can see jaw dropping views of moon captured by our local astrophotographers ... in mosiac etc and the resolution is amazing...you can join us for the regular observation sessions... ;p

I am also not sure of any perfect way to do it except to take the pic perfectly. Hee hee.

Anyway, the reason why I prefer not to trust software emboss is that the software might not know what it is embossing. A crater might turn out to be a plateau. Look at the bottom right hand crater of you embossed picture. It looks like its a plateau where it should be a shallow crater instead.

I am not expert cos i am still learning to take good moon pics but its what I see from your pics.
The best try to shoot with the best shot and less PP.

Yes singastro, for hardcore astrophotographer. I think the best solution is still shoot it with CCD cam and do mosaic.

My first moonshot also, very losy don laugh ok :)

I know, I am already a member there, reserved a second-hand scope and mount. Am waiting for pay to come in so that I can redeem my purchase. I have also posted my shots there.

Would love to join in the observation sessions but I need to be home to take over my wife and do my part for the kids. I can only "sneak" out to shoot moon and in the future planets and stars when my kid is asleep.

I am trying to do it with a DSLR. Cos since I already have a capturing device, might as well make full use of it. As for CCD, I think in the future then I go for it lah. I am too new into astronomy and astrophotography.

That is a good attempt. I feel that the ISO level might be too high... What are your settings? ISO and shutter speed. I believe you are using 300mm at f/5.6 right?

And is it a 100% crop? Cos if it is, it should be more or less the same size as mine.

Cos most like next month on, i'll be shooting thru a Meade LX50 2025mm SCT.

Do share info.
Is this a 8" scope come with a computerise mount? You doing DSO or just planetery.

Yes, its a 8" Meade LX50 SCT on a Optron Smartstar-G mount.

Since its my first try into astrophotography, I'll do planetary first then venture into DSO later.

Yes, i cropped the photo to make the moon looks bigger in perspective.

Following is the settings:
Exposure: 0.002 sec (1/500)
Aperture: f/8.0
Focal Length: 280 mm
Exposure: 0.00
ISO Speed: 400

I have a feeling that its not a 100% crop, or maybe its bcos its 280mm instead of 300mm. Anyway, I feel that the ISO is too high, personally, I prefer a low ISO like 50 cos less noise generated. For that, you can consider decreasing the shutter speed for that.

Also, IMHO, I find that while the settings should be more or less the same for all cameras and lenses, different camera and lens combi requires different settings. Just my 2 cents.
