My D80 failed to auto-focus...

Yes. Time to bring the RH up to about 48% if you don't want the SWM to jam again. ;p All you need is 1-2 weeks in the RH condition to get the SWM to jam up. Even when I take the lens out to play for a while every week, there is still a hint of some jam and it tend to make some squeaky sound as it traverse.
If that happens, keep the lens cap on and just let keep on half-pressing - release to get the SWM in the lens to move. It will travel from infinity to min focus and back to infinity if it can't find anything to focus. Do this a couple of times if you suspect that the lens is going to jam again.
But more importantly is to bring your RH up to around 48% first.
i encounter this problem when i send my D80 for sensor cleaning. after collecting i tested the cam.. the problem occur.. i asked the customer service officer. he took my D80 for the service engineer to check.. he told me it was the "lens pin" dirty.. they clean it using alcohol. after it works fine

Me too, i encountered focusing problem with my kit lense. Brought it to NSC and they changed the ' lense motor'.
It took about 5 days.
hmm.. seems like i have, or i shall say had a different problem. Mine was the top 3 points of the AF may not work sometimes, especially after some extensive shooting - it happened during wedding shooting, twice!! 
yesterday NSC called and said they have done some adjustment and get it settled. :dunno:
