hey guys .. Pls advise on wat r the must go must see must do things in Hk . Thanks . And ya .. places for gd food ! Thanks everyone
depends on what you mean by must see and must do
i can tell you, MUST EAT
the last time i went i couldn't keep my hands off the goose
and the dim sum is to die for, if you get the good places
anyhow, get the hong kong tourism board handout, there is one pink booklet, don't know if color changed yet, which has a rough map and directions to all the prominent attractions in hong kong.
hong kong is a very interesting place, much like singapore. it is urban, and it also has its raw side. i wish i can expore the raw side but then sadly everytime i go, i go with my parents, and i don't think it is fair to torture them to climb hills with me.
for the more touristic spots - victoria harbour, avenue of stars at night (there's a light show there, which frankly isn't much but if you're there, why not drop by; during the night there are also loads of performers which are pretty decent!), victoria peak view, lantau island (along with po ling monastery there), disneyland is commercialised but if you have kids.. ocean park is well worth your money compared to disneyland if you ask me, unless you really don't like theme park rides or oceanic themed exhibitions. iirc, if you're into madame tussad's, victoria peak also has one branch.
for the wilder side, hong kong's beaches are extremely beautiful albeit hard to access, and i think there is also tai-o, nicknamed little venice because it is a fishing village. seems a bit commercialised though, probably because of huge groups of tourists going. the mountains and views, though probably offering a hard walk would be worth it too, i hope to go there during summer if i have the time.. to see this side, you can look at
chun lo's gallery here, good stuff. a lot more planning is needed if you take this path though, and probably less time for gorgeous food. :bsmilie:
some other good hong kong galleries, if you are going there for photography, are
johopo and
vj spectra on flickr.
it is my view that if you have the time might as well drop by macau too, not to gamble, but to explore the place, i loved the feel when i was there, also it seemed quite safe to me during the daytime, despite the numerous back alleys i walked through with my tripod and camera bag in full view.
