Hi all,

I was thinking about some posts a short while ago regarding people using multi login's (nicks).

There were a few suggestions given by various people of ways to reduce the problem.

A suggestion I have, (maybe already thought of), is to require the person signing up, to provide a mobile phone number.

They will recieve their password via SMS.

Duplicates of phone numbers is a most simple piece of mathematics.

What if the person does not have a mobile phone ? ... show me anyone above the age of 5 that doesn't have one these days :bsmilie:

Just a thought :)

Some people have more than 1 number and I can easily borrow someone else phone. It will also be discouraging for overseas members.

Yep. How about new overseas members? Global sms $ paid by Clubsnap?

NPS forums uses either email/sms verification...

Some sites require that the registration email address must not be a free and easy to get type, such as yahoo, hotmail or gmail etc.

For example, Astromart only accepts registration email address that are either corporate or some legitimate organization or ISP type of addresses.

Maybe we can consider this. It will make it a lot more difficult to register multiple nicks.

We are so cncerned with multi-nick, but have we really looked into how damanging this multi-nick thing is or not? At the end of the day, other in B&S forum, this multi-nick situation is at best a nuisance.

All the non-web based email to register, mobile phone number to registered and other suggestions, is just ways to make it difficult for people who wants to register from registering. IF someone wants multiple nicks, they will find ways to get it.

ppl can have one email address from his/her company, then one from his/her ISP.

i think the best way right now is to do nothing. this problem is global in all internet forums, and so far, none really came out with a good yet hassle-free solution. some tried a little security measures, but it just made things much messier.

Right! Why waste resources trying to do the impossible? Even if using non-web based means to register an account, anyone could still borrow a mobile number, an ISP email from his/her family members or friends just to get another account.

At best we can only curb the situation by imposing strict policies/monitoring .... it can never be totally eradicated.

I'm not keen on this idea because I want to maintain my personal and work email seperated. I'm sure others also have this concerns, specially offices with strict rules or security or firewalls, etc.

It a losing battle.
