Two seperate incidents in 3 days...

On 26th, I went to buy a Sandisk Ultra CF card. I entered the store and saw this usual plump guy standing there, so I approached him. I asked for a CF card and he quoted me $55 for a 4GB CF and $95 for a 8GB one. Didn't know the price of a CF card(as they were all given for free during camera purchases-well my bad for not doing homework), I accepted the 4GB one. I did not doubt the price then since MS has always been trust worthy.

Then I noticed that he took out a normal CF (non-sandisk). I stopped him requested for Sandisk Ultra. He then commented that it will be a different price and there isn't a 4GB available for Ultra and he gave me a 8GB one at $75. I bought it.

Everything seems ok. But on 28th(below incident), I went to AMK HUB outlet, and noticed that the price printed on an identical Sandisk Ultra 8GB card is $65! So much for trusting them. Quoting $10 more? Didn't know they played the AP/CP kind of tactics. Now then I know I kena chop big time for the CF cards prices including what he verbally quoted me. Well. Also no one told me about the Free SanDisk casing. It is only while surfing the net for actual CF prices moments ago, I came to know about it. Now I need to find out how/where to get/redeem. How funny.

Seperately, On 28th, I went with my friend to buy a Canon S90 at the main MScolor branch. Again it's the plump guy that served us... Upon confirming purchase, I was given a brand new set of Canon S90 to test, I noticed a dead pixel on the LCD and showed him. He then hesitantly gave me the 2nd set to test.

This time round, I noticed a stuck dust spec on the lens front that cannot be removed(he tried removing with a cloth for a good 1-2 mins). At the end, he gave up and told us "Please go to AMK HUB to buy instead". I asked him why, he stood for a moment. I knew he was unhappy with me from all his gestures and mumbling with his colleagues. I then commented "No more stock ah?" Then he replied "ya". But one glance up, I saw at least 7 boxes of S90... WTH is this? Am i suppose to take a dead-pixel camera or take one with a stuck dust on the lens? Already pissed, I walked off the shop. I tried to call john3:16 to know if they are still open (it's already 7+pm) but nobody picked up. As my friend needed the camera urgently, we then went to the AMK HUB outlet.

Now this uncle that served us at AMK HUB just dumped the whole box there and ask us to check it ourselves, sarcastically. Definitely the guy at the S11 outlet gave him a ring about us coming. Who on earth sells camera like that?

Well, my friend bought the camera happily, but me, definitely not dropping by MScolor ever again. So much for patronizing them over the years... My cameras were all from them, dating back to the Powershot A40 days to the 50D. Really pissed!

If you had been chopped when buying the CF card, why did you recommend your friend to buy his camera there? Next time you should consider buying CF card from only PC shows or Sim Lim. If you buy from camera shops, even from the so called reputable ones, they will chop you like crazy. No shop can resist a carrot head and they have no obligation to sell anything to you at the cheapest price.

It seems to be the same with all the stores in Singapore. No matter how good the service is with a particular store, there is always that one sales person that has an attitude.

So you are not new to the shop since you said you have bought so many stuff from them. Wouldn't you by now have a favorable sales person to go to? In Singapore, good customer service is not just about which store to go to but also WHO to go to in that store.

Well this guy u talked abt I have gd experience with him. As for the hub, the prices there is a little higher compare to s11 branch. And yeah I cannot understand how an unhappy customer can return again. The joy to be chopped or to be proven right must be great

Funny. I had totally different experience with them.

#1: Was buying a flash for my brother. Didn't bring camera to test so I asked person if I could borrow one to try on. He willingly let me. (MS Hub).

#2: Wanted to buy flash trigger but they (MS S11) had no stock. He called up hub shop and confirm they have some. Told me if I wanted as he could ask someone to bring it over.

PS: I am not related to MS's staff in anyway.

I never thought they are the best shop in singapore. They seem like the typical camera shop you would expect in Singapore. Prices are not the best, unless you got a phone in advance.

As for service, I thought CP was very good, though their prices are usually a little higher. I would get equotes from CP before going in. They gave me good service maybe because my dad had been buying from them since the film days and we bought quite a bit from them. For most stuff, I actually like OP the most. No hassle attitude. You look at everything you like and no one will bother you. When you are ready or have a question, just ask the staff and they will respond. Not the friendliest but efficient and price quote is never ridiculous like some other shops.

I didn't know/care about the CF card prices until I went there on 28th together with my friend and we saw the price tagged on one of the boxes.

i only went to ms colour for my 2 bags.
lowepro flipside 400aw n kata 3n1-20.
the price that mr loh(i understand he is the boss) gave me is much much better than anywhere else.

Yeah, I understand, sometimes it is not that extra $10 but the feeling of getting overcharge for no reason. MS does not this inconsistent pricing between their two stores...

Agreed with TheChef, CF cards are cheaper in Sim Lim. You can check out the below website for a price guide.

The rental in HUB is much higher, hence make sense to sell higher price. no?

i too just bought a lens from them.. was quoted $960 from the uncle, so i reserved it. when i went down to pay for it the auntie told me $950 just before the uncle quickly stepped in to serve me. i dint say anything but when the receipt came it was $960. lol... $10 i couldn be bothered just pay and go.

i dont know about you guys, but i wont go to that shop anymore.. it doesnt matter whether they give the best prices but it does matter when they change the price just by looking at you or some dumba$$ reason. if you flop then suck it up, less you want your customers to lose confidence in you.

I just bought an S90 from CP Marina for my wife as a Christmas present. The service standard is in stark contrast to what you described. The shop attendant who served me asked me to check the contents of the box... to which I repled no need lah. Can come back to change if anything wrong. He replied that yes, can change within 7 days if there are any problems. But he checked the camera for me anyway. When he spotted a dust speck under the LCD screen, he told me that I don't want this one. He then went to the back and got me a new one. He only sold it to me after he checked that everything was good. ;)

ya...i had no problem with CP at their main branch.
their prices normally slightly higher, but their service not bad...

Are you sure the salesman only let you check 2 sets of S90?

Sorry guys, I've been buying from MS colour. So far I've not encounter any problems you guys face. Even if I call and ask for prices on certain things, they are quite happy to tell me over the phone even tho the items might be out of stocks. I always look for Willy. Maybe we know each other since childhood days so I guess he is quite ok with me.

Sorry to hear that.

Have to agree with this.
Another thread also talking about SD card selling more expensive at camera shops
Also, another thread, some CSer actually recommend look for Willy and Florence.

i'm so agree to 'only look for those sales person'. But the problem is, if we do not know who they actually are, isn't sound a bit weird for us to just walk in and ask 'I'm looking for Willy'....
