My point is you could actually have a more enjoyable session, with a smaller group, pay less, when you hire a model straight from the agency.

You will have a more enjoyable session if you hire a model straight from the agency BUT never will it be cheaper... Cos normal photography rate for models will be about $200 for about 2 hours, depending on the "different experence, height, etc".... And add in the terms & conditions by certain agencies, people might rather these organisers be around to deal with everything~~

once i went for a photoshoot...
the model was lying on the bed.. and all the male photographers stand right up on the top of the bed.. and did a shot down... guess waht? i felt tt the whole scene look like 10 photogs "masterbating" on the model...

If she's a professional model, it's just a job.

This year Christmas must come early.

First we have someone asking for a free event photographer. Now we have another one telling us a cheap professioanl model shoot is possible. The local photography scene can never be so good.

But who is there to organise one for us? Father Christmas?

I smell something fishy guys......

Just less than one day old nick, and this person seems to have all negative comments about ALL the organisers.

I am sure this person knows us very well. This is another one of those who is not happy with someone in CS.

We would like to meet you in person. If you bold enough......to meet any of us. Talk is cheap...in fact it's free.

Coming from someone who just graduate.

What are you intentions? You are simply trying to wind up the board, get everyone huffing and puffing about prices which are dictated by the market, and for what? If 10 photographers are wiling to pay $150 pp for 3 hours of shoot, I am sure the model and the organiser must have track records to command that price. CSers are no dummy which organisers or models are good and worth every penny paid for. BTW, please point out which organiser charged $150 pp with 10 photogs shooting? The model(s) must be exiquisites.

Lucrative? This is one of the most cut throat business. Which planet did you came from.

Godzilla may have a point. the Op is probably a whimp, too timid to stand up and say what in his/her minds, most likely his, and has to resort to slander while hiding behind a new nick. Oh well, I just cannot stand people who over generalise especially when critizing others, and without merit too.

Well, got it off my chest, from someone who feels the shoots in Singapore, may not be the best for whatever reasons the photographer may feel, but DEFINATELY the MOST BANG FOR THE BUCK!!! And I know cus I shoot as much as any body here!!!!!

I think the "age" in the forum doesn't really matter if the person brought up a valid point. To clarify, I am not trying to say that he has one, furthermore I had never attended any of these model shoot. In my personal opinion, I too think that its silly for me to pay that kinda money just to shoot a gal especially in the outdoor. For the gal, make up artiste and out fit... nah... not me unless you are telling me I get to use studio set and equipment etc.... maybe.

Hello guys,

Sorry to interupt in this thread but may I know why are we paying to shoot people, in the first place? For the professionals, paying and receiving pay is alright because their rice bowl depends on this art.

For hobbyist and serious photographers, why are we paying to shoot people? Becasue the person we are shooting looks nice? Because the person we are shooting knows how to pose?

Photography is an expensive hobby. We have already spent so much money on the equipment and accessories, now we are spending money to shoot? I cannot see the logic behind this.

There are some points I agree and disagree in this thread so I think it will be better to express my views on this rather than to agree or disagree with the nice people here.

As a newbie, I really think that it is doesn't make sense to pay for a person to shoot that person. We, as photographers, possesses the right skills and enthusiasm to be able to transform anybody on the street into a beautiful subject of our own vision. I really have the urge to go for such shoots but then hold my horses when I think rationally.

Remember guys, we are practising and fine-tuning our skills with photography, engaging a person to act as a model and a subject so that we can focus on, and not to get a pretty face to stand there and let people shoot and let people comment on how this shot was taken nicely, model looks cute, etc. It is skills and not the people. We brush up our skills and not look at good looking models to fill our lenses.

If I am to engage in a photo shoot, I'll most probably start off with a normal person, that is, one that doesn't charge. I can practise on my skills and he/she can practise on how to pose. I believe we are the persons that makes and transform a duck to a swan.

Just my 2 cents worth. Sorry if I have offended anybody. No hard feelings.

Hi Zeckson,

Agree with your POV to a certain extent. I can understand your feelings on this as someone who just started off.

However, there will come a time when you have to make a choice of what you want to concentrate on taking.

If your rationale holds up, and people who have spent good money on photographic equipment shouldn't pay to photograph models, then why are you paying for the electricity that you use at home? After all, you did spend good money buying the damn place.

It is for the simple fact that you need it. Just as much as you need to use electricity, there are those who need to pay models for a photoshoot, both for professional puposes and to hone their skills.

Hello Reflection,

Hmm... Perhaps that there may be a time for me to choose what I would want to focus on in time to come. I guess I have not reach that point yet.

As to your analogy on electricity, well, we help it because government wants to collect money for using electricity and there is no other way to get it besides paying for it. And electricity has become a basic need in every household. That is, every household needs it and cannot do without it.

When comes to models, there are plenty of people out there. If one is bold enough, one simply approach any one to do a photo shoot. It is not necessary to pay expensive charges to have somebody standing there for you to shoot. As to how to pose and how to look, it is all in our control I believe. In models, we have a choice. In electricity, we don't have any. :)

Yep agree with you on this point. After all photographers are using the model's time and effort to pose for them.

Do you know which country you are staying? SINGAPORE! Nothing is free in this world, especially Singapore.

Sure every now and then there will be someone silly out there will be willing to offer free or cheap modelling service but for how long?

Want cheap and want green! (Translate into Hokkien).

Well if let us know which model is bold enough to let us shoot for little or nothing. We will want to joined the free shoot.

Hello,

Sure guys! If I happen to get a chance on somebody, I'll let you guys know and we'll all do a nice photo shoot of that person! Yeah!

How about candles? I think those would look smashing. ;)

Jokes aside, and no offence to you. When a professional model becomes a basic necessity, you'll see what i'm driving at. I think you've got the idea when you commented on my analogy of electricity. Models charge, agencies pay. Agencies charge, consumers pay. Models are also consumers. Hence money makes the world go round.

On the other hand, you can roam the streets to look for "models" to shoot. Different photography, different, different, different. :D

think about it this way rather than electricity.

its like golf.
there are serious hobbyists golfers around. (not many people like golfing too, just like not many people like photography too)

y issit that golfers must pay for green fees? EVEN in public courses? and it gets more expensive with buggy, caddies so on and so forth.

HECK, y pay for a country club membership fees to pay golf?

for the same logic of reason, there is a middle person, and this middle person is also known as the organizer. He/she organizes the flights of golf, the time, the location (aka 9 hole/18 hole championship course) basically he ORGANIZES. he organizes everything from the welfare of the golfers to the planting of the trees to the tidying up of the course, to the watering of the course to maintain the GREENERY, to the trimming of the fairways to the allocation of caddies and instructors.

Likewise, there is an organizer who organises model shoots so on and so forth.

for professional golfers, they pay ALOT more to play in their own league, circuit. as for amateurs or even beginners, the coach/organizer can hire coachers, instructurs to guide them on the fairway.

if u think of the maintenance of the golf course, u can probably appreciate the cost involved, LET alone sprucing it up to give members/public the draw to repeatedly patronise that course.

now relate this to the modelling business in CS

fact is, if u think its THAT easy and simple to even approach anybody on the street to get amateurs and "market" the idea of a photoshoot in CS WITHOUT KNOWING the other person, let alone tie down makeup artiste, locality, weather check, transport so on and so forth, please feel free to organize it, i'm sure most CSers will not mind at all!
