borrow this thread, how long can this cam dip under water?

If doing snorkering, can I swim with it for hours?

===================================================
The Gadget: The Stylus 1030SW, Olympus' semi-indestructible 10.1MP point-and-shoot, is designed for fairly extreme conditions. Olympus claims the camera is shockproof (to 2 meters), waterproof (to 10 meters), freezeproof (to 14°F), and crushproof (to 220 lbs.) We've seen other cameras with features like this, but it's rare that they're all combined into one.

The Verdict: It's tougher than Glass Joe, but it's no Mike Tyson.
1030SW Review

* Dimly lit - Bath
* Underwater - Feet
* Indoors - Edie
* Outside - Atlantic City

I tested the 1030SW under fairly rigorous conditions, and for the most part it stood up to the challenge. After dropping the camera to the ground from around six feet, it took pictures without any problem. Next was the underwater test. I didn't take it to the limit, but I did bring it with me in the tub. The camera works under water, and there are options designed for capturing images of sea life. The pictures didn't come out too well, but that could be my fault as it is likely designed to shoot fish in clear water and not sitting in a bathtub, taking pictures of my...er...feet.

Things got a little trickier during the freeze and crush tests. I left it in the freezer for about two hours, and when I took it out I had a "Battery Empty" message. Worried that I damaged the camera, I let it thaw and it came back to full power after 10-15 minutes. For the crush test, I placed all 170+ pounds of myself on top of the camera. At first I heard a little unnerving crunch, and when I picked it up, I saw what looked like a crack in the LCD screen. However, after about 15 seconds, it went away and I was left with the same crack-free screen I had when I started.

As for the pictures, they came out well for the most part. In optimal conditions, they looked great. When I was under water, or in a dimly lit room the snapshots left a little something to be desired. I was able to correct some of the shots with the various exposure options, but it's still a point-and-shoot.

If you are going on an outdoor adventure and looking for a light, easy camera to take, this is a good bet. I wouldn't recommend pushing it to the advertised limits, but it's definitely sturdier than other cameras in its price range.

longer than your wrinkles can take it.:bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

it's a great cam if you have itchy hand kids.

Can see some of test picture for the 795 SW

CLICK HERE

Only the last picture I use photoshop to made the blue more blue, the rest is fresh from the camera

Inside the guide that I have read said that can be used under water approx 1 hour its ok

Just got this baby, haven't have a chance to try it in the water yet. But something I dislike that the video mode at VGA (640x480) 30fps can only record up to 10 seconds???......Just find that it is stupid!;(

ok, me got it too...

tried some swimming pics already, impressive. Shoot quality is nothing to shout about, but the cam feels solid.

try the water. it's fun. hey, that's a camera not video camera. shutter lag is definately since it's pns. only complain flare easily due to the "protective lens". prints in 4R no prob. but don't expect big print outs.

The reason why I got this is because I will be going to Bali and Cebu this year. Maybe after the trips, I might be selling it. ;)

i'll wait in BnS forum.......

i use 770sw for maldives.. not very often have lag... not really noticeable if u ask me. Photo quality is good for P&S camera with little tweaking needed.

I had a 790SW

Photo quality is decent, but night and low-light shots tend to look a bit dull on my monitors. I love the weatherproofing/ underwater capability, but do look after the rubber seals.

Too bad I lost the camera after 8 months of fun...:cry:

My good friend just went snorkeling using the 850SW. Decent photos but not so easy to catch the fish moving around. He paid less than $400 for it.

Where did he buy it from? The best price offer I got for a new one is around $450.

Just got a 1030SW and brought over to Tioman last weekend. It definitely serves as what it's made for. Every single cent worth!

MSColor just quoted me $399 + 7% GST. Free 2 pcs 2GB card and a hard case.

Cathay $439 come wi 2x2gb card and 2 bat.

I was surprised by the 1030 image quality. So far it has survived a drop from 3 feet onto a carpeted floor. Would recommend this P&S for it's robustness and decent ISO 80-100 image quality.

I just bought 1030sw from jap, still playing with it.

Like the paranomic feature, esp when is so easy to take the pic (few ways to take and 1 of the option is really simple, take the first pic, pan left or right, align the dot to the bracket and click, then pan more and so on ... viola!) The camera can process/stitch the image straight away in the camera rather than doing it on a computer.

Didn't like the fact that I can't zoom during video recording.

Some scenes and function limits the max resolution.

Shutter button a little tougher to press (esp half press for focus)

Like the exposure compensation preview.

Like the cool led torchlight function

Like the long exposure for night scene.

I had a clip-on wide angle lens brought from HK that works well with my 720sw. (too bad i broke the lens) So just curious, is there wide angle lens (even 3rd party) for 1030sw? I know 1030sw is already quite wide but....who will mind some fisheye effect!

Last of all... since i got my new 1030... anyone interested in buying over my 720sw cheap?

Hi you went akihabara shop to buy? how much did you get it for? thinking of getting it in nov as i will be there...:)
