Misaligned Leica Range-finder

Hi everyone.

May I know what can I do if my M6 does not shown coincident images of far-away buildings?

My main worry is using f1.4 or f2 at close ranges if the rangefinder is already off at infinity.

Is there anyway I can re-align the images/focussing myself?

If not, where is the most reliable in Singapore to send it to?

How much would it cost to re-align the RF system and is it a safe procedure to be done locally?

There is a camera repair shop at Shaw Centre (near Isetan Orchard) which can do this. I forgot the name, but you can go there and check the directory-- only one camera repair shop there. Should cost about $60-120 to repair. The owner is not very customer-oriented but he can do the job here if you want. If you don't, then sending to US, UK or other repairers overseas is the other option.

cam-x or prime can do it for you.

Good riddance.... Such a rude guy the owner was.

Cam-X prob ok, the guy seems to really love Leica's. Prime seems to only care about how much they can make selling 2nd hand Leica's at ridiculous prices.

My problem was:
1) a tree about 150m was in focus with the lens set at infinity;
2) when I shifted the camera (at the same infinity focus) to face a building about 2 km away, I can see the images do not coincide --- it is as if I have to turn beyond infinity to aligned the building and its image.

Could this be a problem with the body? (My impression is that lens normally doesn't pose much problem. Am I right?) Or, could it be a problem with both camera and lens. Or, should I just leave it alone and live with it?

Welcome to world of RF.

Even my old mamiya 6 doesn't align exactly the same at infinity 10m away vs 200m. Same with the Leica M6 and MP

Another thing is, I pre-focus 80% of the time when using the Leica, alignment doesn't matter that much actually, still I can get almost all blistering sharp images from 36 exposures.

Best advice I can give you, shoot a roll, get them printed at 8R and check.

it could be either one or even both. Focusing on the RF is dependent on that focusing tab pushing the cam in the camera so if either bit goes out of alignment, then your focus will be off. My suggestion is to try the lens out with another body and the body with another lens. If the problem persists with the other body, the lens is the fault. If the problem persists with the other lens, then the body is the faulty one. If the problem persists in both, then it might just be both.

haha....if you own a russian RF, chances are you can re-align it yourself with an appropriate spectacle screw-driver. ;p
