How do you define dirty? Dust? Mine has some spots, but its not dust, and I am not sure to clean it or not.

As others had advised just blow it with a blower brush will do.
The mirror will not affect your image output anyway.
It is not advisable to mess around your camera CCD area. :nono:

Most of the time I use the blower. On occasions, I use cotton bud tipped with alcohol.

The mirror I'm told is coated with aluminium in the front unlike our normal mirrors which are coated at the back. If the mirror is too dirty it will affect metering as the sensors are usually located on the top near the penta prism.

Don't risk scratching the mirror. Little dust its okay. Just blow with the blower. Avoid using cotton bud!!!!!

Affect metering probabaly if there is a mud spot on it...:bsmilie:

The problem with my mirror there seems to be some stain on it. Also there are some marks on it which I think may be at the point where the mirror goes up. I think I'll send the camera for a check as the camera is still under warranty.

becareful with the mirror when cleaning. it is semi-transparent because, there's another smaller mirror behind this big mirror that is reflecting to the AF sensors.

reflect it under a light, i think i now what you mean. mine looks like there's an oil patch too, but under a desk lamp i see there's a pattern of sorts (one shape in the centre, two on the side). and boy oh boy, i just realised how dusty my mirror is. no wonder AF has been acting strangely slower lately...

Is that pattern suppose to be there? Been wanting to send it to Sony for check up but 2 weeks before I can get it back. I might suffer withdrawal syptoms.

need someone else to check and confirm it. by the looks of that "pattern" it looks like its there by design, but if you view it at an angle it looks like some stain on the mirror.

sorry, i have to postpone the trip down in the morning and afternoon , maybe later in the evening i will drop by to ask them if they can do the cleaning on the spot. But i cant confirm yet.
