[Mio Cade] - Philippines (NGO project)

Just want to say keep up the good work.:thumbsup::thumbsup: You have shown what a powerful medium photography is given the right pair of hands, heart and vision.

I have never seen any picture moving me so much. Kudos to your spirit & bring such state to the outside world.

Every picture of yours has a story, and that too a moving one. Once I saw these, I'm not able to take it out of my mind.

Especially the "pair of Siblings", They still have the innocence, I see one green sandal. I'm sure that once sandal would have been a treasure for these kids.

 for your spirit & your subjects show
:thumbsd: for the environment they live in.

I feel for this pair of siblings.

This young boy was protecting his little brother (or sister..as i can't tell) by shielding him using his body. And this little baby brother was so comfortably sleeping on his thighs.

The boy was so tired. And he dozed off. But if you move near him, he would be so alert and straight away shielding his brother with his shirt and cover his own face with his hand.

He has such shame in him and perhaps he did not want his little brother to be exposed to the same guilt and shame. I feel so sad for him. He is my hero who sacrificed for his brother.

Anyway, I walked towards him and gave him a pat on the shoulder and stroke his dirty hair. It was a gesture of telling him I care and I appreciated his care for his brother.

This one is really touching... Your shots are impressive that even without your captions and explanations the emotions will just comes out...

This is a really touching and meaningful series. The most meaningful use of photography and best example of sending a message through images. Salamat kabayan :)

noodlehaus, I think he is not a Filipino.... he had mentioned it in the previous post..

Never ever feel touched by photos until I see your photos.

Finally, I understand the saying of "A Good Photography tells thousands of words".

Your photos inspire me a lot. Thank you so much for sharing.

Proud of You!:)

Never did post anything since joining CS back in 08, but these pictures are too profound, so I've got to handover my first post to you TS.

I've got to add something to one of your pictures, "I feel for this pair of siblings..."
The liquid in the milk bottle isn't milk (based on its color), but something they call "AM", yes, "AM".. When rice is cooked, at boiling point, water on top is scooped out and used for feeding babies, especially common for these families who barely has enough for a meal. Haiz..
The cup noodle is probably what these two have shared, to last them a day. :(

Keep up your good work, you'll reap what you sow soon.

i agreed to this one.. ARDAAN nice work a thousand word of each image.

Thank you so much for such encouraging words. I feel justice is done as people acknowledge what need to be done. That is my greatest console.

I am sorry I could not attend to individual PM and comment yet...I am still 'flying' around..spending more time in these countries then in Singapore.

I am not from Philippines but I love Phillipines and the people as much as I like people from other countries.

I am born in Cambodia, laboured in the Pol Pot killing field as a young boy, refugee in Thailand, citizen of Malaysia and PR of Singapore...complicated I know..but that is life.

I have seen injustice, experienced torture and hard labor. Also, saw people spying and killing each other. All I hope is to carry message of love here in CS.

Love each other when commenting and sharing, do exercise care and sensitivity to make it a better world (and CS)

Aroma , Tondo - Squatters

Aroma is a neighborhood beside the dump site. According to local sources, the compound was a good initiative constructed for the scavengers from the old dump site ,a.k.a. Smoky Mountain.
Nowadays, we used the term 'Smoky Mountain" rather loosely as we also called the new dump site the same name.
Sadly, after it was built the people from old Smoky Mountain found it expensive to live there and the place was left vacant.
After closing down the facility, the supposed residents moved in quickly and illegally occupied the place.
There is no water and electricity. And during rainy season, the place would be flooded.
It is a place sometimes also known as Happy Land (although the term actually refers to the new dump site). It is a place that no one want to explore. It is said that you risked being robbed and life could be threatened.
I went in this time with few NGO friends, looking for a possible place to build a new NGO.
The situation in there is alarming. But I do not smell as much danger that I need to worry about. I roomed around freely alone and talking to the people.
Although they are not as friendly as the people from Ulingan and Smoky Mountain, I have my respect on them.
It is a hazardous environment to live in.

Smoky Mountain, Tondo - Child Scavenger of Smoky Mountain

They dig and dig in search of items that can be recycled. But underneath these so called treasures (garbage) there may be snakes, scorpions, centipedes and other poisonous reptiles that may sting and bite. The children almost have no protection. And how much do these children earn ?
I was told only 50 pesos (less than $1) per day.

You know ... it is my duty to capture the real suffering of these people but I really hope such injustice I saw would never happen again. You and me can make it happen...if the voices are united and loud enough.

Natgeo never approach me..but President of P did.;)

I really don't know how I could have nonchalantly missed this excellent thread. Seeing all these heart wrenching photos I must say you are really brave and a man with a big heart to be there Mr Miocade. I really wish I could help. My prayers goes to all the unfortunate people out there and hope that the authorities offer assistance to them with your photos. Thank you for sharing these precious gems with us. Cheers!

Fantastic. I'm moved!

Smolky Mountain, Tondo - Brotherly Love

Thanks for sharing your travel photographs, ardaan. This image reminds me of W. Eugene Smith's famous 1971 Minamata Bay photograph of a mother holding her mercury infected daughter in a bathtub. For your image, it touches me and you have had captured the emotional mood in this brotherhood relationship. The exposure and monochrome tonality are just right. 2-thumbs up!!:thumbsup:

The very first image of the little girl titled, "My Toy" is well captured too. Her expression shown thru her eyes and the dirty face and clothing tells us alot about her childhood and her life. Another image of the little child with milk bottle. The lighting and exposure certainly created a mood. Well done!
