Minolta 17-35 f2.8-4 D for S$480 worth it?

the 17-35 is a great lens. i don't know about the price, but for performance this lens produces crisp images and i very seldom have to adjust contrast or do anything to the pics taken with this. the limitation at 35mm is a pain sometimes but as Pai rightly said, it forces you to "go in" for the shot. i used it at my co's event last week, took nice wide angle shots and even did some nice portraits with it at 35mm! although yeah, i had to go in close though haha...

heh.. no time to shoot often nowadays... shall see how this lens perform soon! :)

hehe, and just imagine when it's on film/full-frame, and you get a true 35mm max...

the good thing about the wide-angle is that you can get people in the frame without them even knowing you are shooting them. So actually the main obstacle to overcome is your own fear of getting up close and personal....

i could happily snap away at this lady here, who thought i was only shooting the onions :bsmilie:

pardon the lousy pic, illustration purpose only

yeah man.. looking forward to FF if it does happen.. this lens will sure come in handy :)

this lens is huge.....(compared to the kit lens).. put on the lens hood.. and its even bigger than my 5d...:bsmilie: a bit comical .. haha

time to look for a 77mm UV filter.. hmmz need input from the bros out there... from your experiences..issit better to get a slim type UV filter? Will normal UV filter cause vignetting?

You are unlikely to get hard/strong vignetting on APS-sensor by using filter, as it utilise the centre portion of the lens mainly. If you talk about full frame/film then may be, I am not sure also.

yeah, but ppl will think you're pro :bsmilie: if you mount the 18-70 kit ppl think you're just a noob. funny how ppl think... anyway, i have a konix uv filter on mine and there is NO vignetting at 17mm. not sure abt the hoya ones... you can go to Seng Cheong at midlink plaza and try it - the lady is very helpful and prices are better than outside.

big lens = pro ?

nah.. u seen Leica camie ? small but extremely good.

hard to get already this lens...saw one last week at simlim..$600 b4 gst.. ..the sigma version is as good...

where can i buy this lens ?

Got to hunt for that lens already. It's quite popular and difficult to get your hands on one now. You can get the Sigma one if you want, it's just as good. Bro DewaKarma & myself are selling the Sigma one though. You can check out our thread in the B&S. :)

hmmz.. haven been using this lens much except to take sunset...
And i think i did mention that i read somewhere that its prone to flare..

But so far... flare is not really a problem.. i seldom catch flare at the wide end (maybe 20% of the shots) even though i am shooting directly into the sun and stacking 3 filters in front.. (i am not saying i am testing this lens for flare..just stating my experience with the lens :) ) So far this lens has been good... :)

a couple of examples from my last shoot... haven had time to really process the pictures..

never had flare problems with it either even in strong sunlight. will use it for shoot at stadium this sat. for sharpness and colour this lens is no-horse-run.

I shot in raw mah... so when got time den really process... haha

Oops. Din catch the "really" part. He he. Well the pics are great enough for me with the minimal pp u did.
