Hey pals...

As per title, is S$480 for a brand new 17-35 f2.8-4 a good deal? Hmmz I am not a very wideangle guy, and the kit lens has served me well for the occasional group photos and landscape shots, but just thinking of getting it for "future-proofing" in case Sony really comes out with a 1.25 or FF camera.  The speculated 17-35 CZ would be out of my reach then...

Reviews on dyxum seems not too bad either, flare is a common problem. Any personal opinions from the bros here? (tried the search function but dunno how to search properly...:bsmilie: )

Thanx in advance for any advice!

Regards,
Rongren

it a very good price!
any other good lobang?

at S$480 brand new, it's a good buy for this decent lens, use to cost much more than that. But now seem to be supercede by the newer Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8, however which is a DT lens.
Some reviews of Tamron lens 17-35mm f/2.8-4.0 here, rumour say KM one is contract manufactured by Tamron, so they are the same lens.

However the following review claim the corner is not good on full frame at wide open, after sotp down seem to do better.

If its brand new, I will have to say its a good buy.

Thanx eow, zcf and Johnston for your replies! appreciate them :)

Its not a local piece, though brand new on ebay, 4 pieces left i think. I just clicked and bought one (on impulse?:dunno: :dunno: ). At AUD$349, plus shipping and GST would come up to the $480. Interested bros can do a search for it.

Cheers!

even the 17-35G suffers from a lot of flare. the front element is big and the lens is very wide angle. interestingly, the kit lens is less flare prone :sticktong

the 17-35 is my most used lens. i love the drama that a wide angle gives. it forces you to get really near the action so that there is a greater sense of interaction with the subject. shoot more wide angle! who knows, you may love it

tempted to buy back one 17-35mm for my D7  BBB virus here again

....if going ff...u can't go wrong with a 17-35mm
otherwise 17-50mm is a better and sharper lens....if backside itchy...the 16-80mm f3.5-4.5:devil:

See who in CS wallet is super itch ;p

Though I am aware one forumer is selling lens to fund it, and some seem to be very keen.

the 17-35 is a great lens. i don't know about the price, but for performance this lens produces crisp images and i very seldom have to adjust contrast or do anything to the pics taken with this. the limitation at 35mm is a pain sometimes but as Pai rightly said, it forces you to "go in" for the shot. i used it at my co's event last week, took nice wide angle shots and even did some nice portraits with it at 35mm! although yeah, i had to go in close though haha...

hehe, and just imagine when it's on film/full-frame, and you get a true 35mm max...

the good thing about the wide-angle is that you can get people in the frame without them even knowing you are shooting them. So actually the main obstacle to overcome is your own fear of getting up close and personal....

i could happily snap away at this lady here, who thought i was only shooting the onions :bsmilie:

pardon the lousy pic, illustration purpose only
