its fast enuff on the 10D for most shooters except the most demanding ones who wants to go 8fps. :p

Eh brother, dun put words in my mouth hor.

It's going for $425 (inc GST). But if lots of people are interested, I can lower down the prices.

I think currently, there's only Magicstor making the 2.4GB "microdrive". Got a fren using it on his Nikon 5700, he said the speed much faster than his 30X or so CF.

I think there are a few more users in CS, maybe someone who has one want to provide 1st hand information? My info was like 2nd/3rd hand. :)

MagicStor's also going for 399 at Memory Place in SLS. Saw it there 2 weeks ago. Was deciding if I should get one of these babies or a X's Drive for my upcoming overseas trip.

Not too sure about its power consumption though. According to previews, the pre-production model used alot of power.

heard that microdrive is very sensitive to shakes and stuff like that. anyone knows how sensitive it is? i would be using my camera for diving as well, so there's some variance of temperatures in and out as well. not too great difference i think, but just in case... anyone knows?

1. i've handled 3 IBM 1GB microdrives over the past 5 months, over 10000 shots, including an overnight island trip, shooting in semi-sheltered storm, and a few weddings. They all performed wonderfully.

2. Michael Reichmann of Luminous Landscape uses IBM microdrives for his D30, D60 and 1Ds.

3. NASA used them for their space exploration trips. Good enough for NASA is good enough for me.

i've read of CF card failures and well as microdrive failures. Seems the determining factor is not so much the technology but the quality of the manufacturer.

The Magicstor 2.4GB does run very hot though. i had some problems with it doing burst rate shooting on the 10D.

One other advantage of the microdrive: it is perceived as 'fragile' compared to CF cards. Folks don't like it and underrate it, so it stays cheap.

ahhahaha!!! thats a good one! maybe thinking of getting a microdrive card... now only selling 2.4gb?

Let's put it this way...

Microdrives are meant to be cost effective. But they can be damaged if u don't take care of it. I mean, I wouldn't drop my expensive digital camera. I wouldn't drop my expensive flash card, microdrive, whathaveu, because they cost money.

if u dun know how to take care of items that you spent ur money on, it would really be a waste IMHO.

Then again, I did drop the magicstor prototype a few times. But then... my height could be the deciding factor - the height of the microdrive being dropped to the floor is kinda short. :bsmilie:

good point, haha. i was thinking about that too. i also vey the gan jiong over my c5050, which is my life and soul, cos all my savings went into it. anyone know got selling 1gb ones?

Actually, the 1GB is still not very cheap now. I believe it is still 300+ new. At this price, I'll rather get a 1GB flash memory CF at around $390-400 or 2 x 512MB at $200 each. Note also that the MD is also slower when you are reviewing your photos on the camera. I have one, and while it is fast during shooting, it is slow during reviewing during to the drive spin up and rotational latency.

The 2.4GB magicstor, at $399, is very cheap per megabyte.
