I was in a camera store yesterday and got my hands on the 58 AF-1 and the build quality isn't any better than that of the FL-50, if you were wondering. Still, the extra power and twin flash ability is appealing.

OT: Also tried an E-510 and it felt nice but definitely not a replacement for my E-1.

Thanks for the feedback, personally I am very intrigued by the 3D fill flash; something I could do on my E-300 but not on my E-1.

Woohooo... sounds like someone is getting bitten by the BBB bug... ha ha ha... BUY BUY BUY!!! :bsmilie: (then I can borrow)...

Selamat, are you in contact with the local Metz people?

If you are, do you think you can convince them to let us preview the flash?

TIA!

No I am not unfortunately.

Lets see if they are available at the next show. They are quite friendly people.

Maybe if you can contact them to see if they are able to loan a unit for preview in mid August at the next kopi session. That would be awesome. I will try to get the vertical grip in time for that meeting as well... so there will be loads of toys to preview.

Sorry I will be quite busy till mid of August

Hi bousozoku,

U mean u try the olympus/ panasonic model? Which shop? Is the (58 AF-1 O/P) available in sg? ;)

Dear bros,

question:
The AF assist wide area illumination will work on any brand / model of camera?
Will it work on my L1? The AF assist light for L1 is too weak esp under low light condition.

Thanks :D

....

I don't think the 58 AF-1 Olympus or Pentax models are available anywhere right now, even though Metz made the announcement. It'll probably be two weeks. It was a Nikon or Canon-compatible model.

I do have trouble seeing what stores in Singapore have anything at the moment since I'm on the other side of the planet. ;) I'll change that at some point and visit.

If you lived here, you'd call it FloriDUH, also. :D

No probs bro, let me see if I can "convince" them...

The flash is already on sale in Europe; there's a thread on it at DPR.

Let us know in advance when you are coming... that would be great to have a gathering organised when you are in town... woot!

Everyone is anticipating for the release/shipping of the new Metz... I hope they have sorted out licensing issues and $$$ with Olympus. FP TTL is excellent! Especially when this is a high powered hotshoe mounted flash unit. Going to be a versatile flash unit to own...

Kudos for the link~!!

Read that the METZ has a PLASTIC hot shoe instead of a metal one... being a METZ, it's probably well engineered but I'm not so sure about a plastic hot shoe... could be a potential deal-breaker for me... ;p

The Oly flashes all have plastic hotshoes, so there's no alternative.

Dang! I must have been having a homer simson moment ~ what was I thinking? :embrass:

Practally all the flashes on the mkt have plastic hot shoe mounts; It's the CAMERA hotshoe that's metal...

Geeze....

Just read this thread and WOAH, definitely something to look forward to. Was thinking of upgrading to a FL-50 but thats definitely put off for now until the Metz arrives!

How exciting!

Wise decision... let's wait and see!

Good morning Bros and Siss

Just back from my Hong Kong business trip. Have checked some shops in MongKok area. Metz58 for Olympus camera is available there. It costs roughly S$650. For your information only.

Thanks for the info; it shouldn't be too long before the flash arrives in SG now.
