Will this work with the E-3 ?

It should.

It comes with a USB connection allowing you to update the firmware (yup, even flashes come with firmware updates!). As far as I know the AF-1O supports all Oly-specific TTL modes - even the remote system as a master, controller, or slave. Now whether that means it'll support wireless, I'm not sure - I'm still waiting for the evaluation copy to arrive. *sigh*

Guys, just wanted to provide this update. Asked my uncle to pick one up for me in HK but apparently there is no stock (he checked out all shops in Mongkok and Stanley street). If any one here has the contact number of the shop that has stock, please post it up.

Many thanks!
Colin

Been thinking of getting a flash... any updates on this??

Anyway ust got the FL50R at 3:16 for $700 comes with white diffuserstofen cap, bounce card and strap with stand(inside box), better than FL50 package.

ya la. this flash will never come i guess. The fl50R is next big thing for Oly flashes.

have to look overseas la, I managed to get a fairly new used one from b&s on fourthirdsphoto.com ;)

Hi, just to check the status of METZ 58 AF-1, I would like to invest a flash for my E3.

Thinking METZ 44 and just got to know of 58. Anyone know the price and where to buy?

Thanks.

Time to stir this thread up a bit, anybody got updates on this? Any significant perf diff between the Metz 58 AF-1 vs the FL50R ? Thanks~

Wireless control with TTL, TTL, and more TTL. Metz is better built overall, no TTL, and sales service sucks in Singapore. If you can manage to get one in the first place. FL-50R wireless is a lot of fun!

I got in Hong Kong Mong Kok. It supports HSS (High Speed Syncro), which equals to Oly's FP. I only tested it with 4 AAs Duracells. Recharging time is about 5-6 secs, compared to my FL-36 10-12secs. Comes with built-in reflector card and difusser. Has also a secondary fill-flash, which is handy.
It supports its own wireless flash system, should not be compatible with E-3, unless Metz comes out with a firmware to support.

Can share how much it costs and which shop you bought? :)

Just wanna check, did ur set come with the USB cable or must buy separately? Mine did not come with the USB cable...

Bought it from Man Shing. Got it for HK$3380 ~S$638. It does not come with a USB cable. It has a standard mini-USB port. I'm using it with 4x GP 2700mAh, OK for my current usage. Might look for an external battery pack if I shoot more often with it. Definitely muchX3 better than my FL-36. As my LightSphere does not fit, I begin to appreciate the built-in deflector card and diffuser. I have not use a FL-50 before (and will not), I think this Metz is a better deal as it has a secondary fill-flash. Especially so as I can't use my E-500 built-in flash with a external flash, whereas you can do that on a E-300. We do not have many choices for a good Four-Thirds Flash. Metz is my answer.

ah okie cool, am relieved now... I use mine with the flip-it pro. I seem to have trouble using the fill in flash though, the pics seem to turn out underexposed. Care to share your settings?

I consider the Metz 58 comparable with the FL50, not the FL36, mainly for the size, heft, and perhaps for its function. The FL36 takes 2AA and the FL50 and Metz58 takes 4AA. The Metz 58 is more like a FL50 replacement. The FL50 naturally will be a better performer in terms of speed and range compared to the FL36. Thus, you would definitely feel the difference between Metz58 and FL36. And is it true that the numbers represent the range or the power of the flash? I know that FL36 is good for 36m and FL50 for 50m. So does it mean the same for the German flash??
