Memories of Hokkaido

What's the MFD of your 24mm?

Almost 20cm. Very near enough to do relatively close up shots for a non macro lens

Something like this for example :P
A MOS burger ( at Odori )

We had lunch on one of the days in Sapporo in an underground cafe called Coffee Yakitoi.
Cosy and nice, most of the people being the lunch crowd

For a little taste of Moiwa. Thanks g-khoo for the recommendation. One of the top three beautiful cityscapes of Japan ( Otaru from Tenguyama, Haokdate from Mt Hakodate, and Sapporo from Mt Moiwa ) Made some last minute amendments to accommodate this beautiful location in Sapporo.

Take a tram ( aka street-car in japan ) from Odori for about 20 mins ( Or Susukino but more number of stops ), walk about 15-20 minutes ( by following the sign boards ) Expect a slope up at the last stretch to reach the Moiwa cable station. We got a little discount coupon that a nice JR station staff handed to us.

The JR station was an awesome ride up with a view of the setting sun over Sapporo.

Once at the top of the cable station, take a free shuttle to the peak of Moiwa.
Climb two stories to reach the peak. We were there about 630pm local time.

On the squarish roof top, the various borders are labeled NSEW. Taken from the west.
For those wondering if it can be done without the metal tower on the right, it is not easy cause it is at the edge of the roof. It is an interesting element to include I think. Do not ask me to label the mountains. I have no idea.

The sun about to set.

24mm PC, 3 frames stitched, +2 Reverse Grad.
My small pan did not do justice to the lovely scene, but made me think back of the trip longingly for more.

Thanks once again g-khoo for the recommendation!

OMG this is amazing! If my bearings are right, i guess most people, including myself were shooting from the east side - cuz that's where the city lights were if you shot at night.

I guess if you went there sunset hours it would be totally different though. You can shoot from all sides

Took a few pan shots. This one was taken closest to end of the sunset from the east side where most people will start crowding to the moment the city lights light. ( colors saturated a little ) Abit of resemblance to urs g-khoo :bsmilie: but slightly shy of taking at complete darkness.

The exposure was slightly longer ( because the skies was much darker but cities brighter ) to bring abit more colors into the skies, tried reversing a +2 GND ( not a Reversed Grad btw ) to hold back the lights over the cities to prevent the little city lights from burning out ( ok to be fair I am not too sure of the extent of the impact on that )

Yes it does look similar in terms of the pano framing.. i noticed that you were able to include more of the city lights on the left side though.

2707139524_b43ed968b0_b.jpg

just for comparison, if you mind just pm me, i can take it down

But mine looks more dull and has a strong blue cast over it (due to mist and night sky) There's also less silhouette in yours as compared to mine - i think it looks better without the silhouette cuz urs has a nice gradient sky.

I wonder if i should crop away my silhouette. What do you think?

Hi g-khoo actually i got abit of inspiration from your shot taken. I think ur silhouette shot is well balanced with the subject. For mine i initially intended to have something similar but i wanted to include more color of the skies and at 24mm technically I could not have included more sihouette ( abit sparse though ) and decided to leave as it is.

From my opinion i think urs look great! A city scape at night would have looked like any other but u had the idea of adding in some interesting foreground elements!

And taking from the same side while the sun was above the horizon at the west, here is a take from the east side.

Apologies for the slightly bigger size, but any smaller might not be able to make out the individual buildings

This picture lacks a Godzilla

Tanuki Koji 狸小路 , the largest shopping arcade in Sapporo. A short walk from Susukino, and a slightly longer walkable walk from Odori.
How can your ( wives and gfs ) miss coming here. A long stretch with more than 200 stores, offering from food to footwear, electricals and cameras and what have you.
There is a restaurant/bar opened by a Singaporean selling our local Singapore food - in case you are sick of Japanese food ( how to ).

There is a mega Daiso near the shopping arcade as well.

A very popular pet shop in Tanuki Koji.
Lots and lots of expensive pets.

Furry friends taken thru thick arcrylic with a 50mm wide at 1.4
The lighting was not the best and AF gets occassionally confused especially by the reflective arcrylic.
