Aiya you bought liao, actually was thinking if you want something to last long...your lens should be more important than your body.
hence the 17-40 F4 and 70-200 F4....

But a bit too late liao now aye

Dont worry about the flash.
Many other toys to buy & upgrade down the line.
We always tend to want to buy this & that.

to play safe, just check if the store is a canon authorised dealer/reseller... then warranty should not be a problem

i visited Lucky Plaza and check out the price of 40d in Ishida Marketing in the GF. their price for the 40d kit 1 is lower from those listed on this site. i have also checked the canon sg website and they're listed.

so do you think its safe to get my 40d there?

I think it's pretty obvious, it being a tourist trap and all. I rather stick to a reputable store even though it might be slightly more expensive. I believe in rewarding good service and honesty.

For Lucky Plaza try Lords.

MS Color at AMK is good. I prefer the older shop near the coffeeshop. Try their E-Quote online, very competitive.

Would the extra money in getting the 40D with the 17-85mm IS USM be justifiable? I find the range useful for me so it's down to price and IQ.

The price on Canon's website is more expensive than any you will find on the street. Canon's website pricing is recommended retail price (RRP), while whatever you find in the reputable shops is known as street price.

Please save yourself the trouble and buy from a reputable shop. Don't even think of Lucky Plaza or SLS unless you are very certain about the market rate and what you are supposed to get with the camera.

I'll say straight that the 18-55 IS trounces the 17-85 IS for image quality. It's just that its build quality is a tad lousier. I don't know about you but at the end of the day, people look at my photos, not how well my lens is put together.

hi Calebk, thanks for the input. So you are saying that if the Image Quality if better on the 18-55 kit lens? From most actual photos taken on the net with 100% crop, the resolution and sharpness is lower for the 18-55 kit lens leh? I was just wondering ithe the 17-85 is better by $500, I didn't think that it's actually worse...

the 18-55 is definately sharper. dpreview also got review for the two lense. go have a good read.
