hey all,

I would be purchasing all my stuffs from Orient Photo... Lynn, i presume is the boss gave me a utterly good quote that i could not resist... most of them are way cheaper than CP and TK... by an approx of 300-400!

Canon EOS 40D Kit-1 w/ EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS S$1630

EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM S$360(this one i emailed wrong but when i called to ask for the 55-250 one, it was also $360)

Speedlite 430EX S$420

Original battery for 40D S$90
Sandisk Extreme III 4GB CF card S$70

Digi-Cabi AD-050 S$155

Lowepro Stealth Reporter D100AW S$98

Canon Lens Hood S$45(this is for both the 2 lens)

Hoya UV guard $12

as above, what do u all think?

For the UV guard, can my 18-55 put it on? cause the end part is rotating... and would it be better to swap of buy 2 so each will have its dedicated ones?

Also.... for the tripod... the brand starting with M is the one all recommend right? What about "silk" etc ... because i saw at CP and the salesman wasn't very helpful either... just asked for price of canon 40D then he told me price and went to do his "reading" without looking at us

EDIT: i just read that orient photo is actually a grey set shop... but just now i called to ask them if the 40D, lens, hens hood and battery were local with warranty, they told me it was local ... local = warranty?

again, I would advise you to read the sticky for 40D kit 1 price. as you already know, OP sell grey set, why dont you just get the local set? I got mine from MS Color for $1730 4 weeks ago, the price should be slightly cheaper now. its worth every penny for 15 month warranty.

other than the 40D, I don't see any of the price quote is too good to resist--just like the price i see from any other shops. get the spare battery from Ebay, $25 for 2 pieces incl shipping, now thats what I may call a price too good to resist.

i am not totally sure if they REALLY local set with wty or they meant local set, but no wty from Canon Singapore. But they cover the wty themself aka shop wty aka grey set.

DUN just ask if its local Wty. ASK if it is cover by CANON SINGAPORE and IF BRING TO CANON SINGAPORE, WOULD THEY HONOUR THE REPAIR FOR FREE. Cos they can always say they nv tell u its cover by canon singapore. Get confirmation with them. And for local set with wty, u shld have a wty card inside and able to claim the following free gift - 2GB Ultra II Sandisk, 400D mag, Canon Lens guide, Photography guide. Total 3 mag and 1 CF card.

yea... i went OP then after talking so long.... they realised that the local set for 40D sold out(my dad told me Lynn was looking sideways at the other employee when i said they told me they had local set in their shop...hmm..)... or maybe they don't have... but their 55-250 is local...

bought the 40d+ kit1 + 430EX at MScolour. SUPER FRIENDLY... even gave us water to drink... quote me 1780 on phone.. then went down they quote me 1770... we tried to bargain then they show us their price list and told us only earn 10 bucks...then after a while i said i wanted the flash, a kind of abit botak uncle came to serve me and gave me 1760... very pleased...

I shouldn't have "gian-ed" the OP price... should just go down to MScolour and get all from them.... hiaz... but if i need anything i will go back MScolour... btw, florence has a daughter? i see the employees asking a young lady whether the prices they quoted can anot.

thanks... its actually a 17-85mm box but containing a 18-mm lens... the mscolour uncle sold the 17-85 lens to other people already so actually he sold me the 40d kit 2 box with the body only and 18-55 seperate

Sure 430EX is weak, but do you really need the extra power? Most event shooters require the power from the 580EX but casual shooters do not. It depends on your needs, and seeing that you haven't really delved into photography, don't listen to the guys at HWZ.

I use a point and shoot canon S3IS and sometime i have to cover my in-built flash with tissue when i was shooting at close range. :bsmilie:
