Go for the 55-250. It's a newer lens, so it has a newer generation of IS that corrects more handshake, than the older 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM. The 70-300's USM is also not full ring USM, so while it's rather silent, it's not as fast as ring USM that you'll find on L lenses; personally I don't think the 70-300 is very worth it, compared to the 55-250, and since both produce very sharp images, why not go for the cheaper option any way.
okay, will go with the 55-250mm one! :D

Suggest you get the EFS 17-55 f2.8 IS. With 40D and this len, no need to change for years.

Why some says 18-55mm (kit1) (this has IS right?) while some says 17-55mm?

i know its mroe exp and has constant aperture and is wider...

You just answered your own question.

The great difference in cost is due to:

Better image quality
Better built
Constant wide aperture
1mm wider

But latter 2 can already cause the price to hike. The difference between a 17-40mm f/4L and a 16-35mm f/2.8L II is S$1k, and that's caused by 1 stop wider aperture and 1mm wider fov.

oh btw, is there like... a thread in CS that has all the tele numbers of the shops(MS colour, CP, john etc)?

instead of me finding one by one .. lol.. hoping there is so no need find ...

Lens - Should have international warranty. Non-warrantied / shop warranty sets are 'grey lenses'
Body - Should have local warranty. Grey bodies like grey lens.

Check if they have warranty. And at the purchase counter when you buy, make sure they promise you 1-for-1 exchange within 7 days if something screws up.

John 3:16 must call cellphone. People already complain their staff don't serve, which is why they don't have time to even pick up the phone, when three staff are serving 20 people.

they selling $1.8k for 40D kit I
they give a "$15" worth of "icase" camera bag
but personally i dun tink its worth it
carrefour selling a bit smaller version $12

but 1 thing i must really commend on john 3:16 is that they are VERY helpful and patience with the customer.
i went there tat time got ard 8 ppl
but only 3 are buying stuff and the rest all company the buyer

but price wise, i personally dun think that they have the best price
i save ard $70 by getting at other shop

and not tat accessible for me
so mscolor is my choice
each has their own preference

2cent thot

There's no such person on staff there. Gary is a regular customer, a bit like me... ;)

I Just bite a bullet today to buy 430EX... was playing with it just now, was amazed that pictures looks much better indoor with bounce flashlight from such a small unit...

Reason why this is so is because once you bounce the light, the light "source" becomes the whole ceiling, a wider surface area compared to a tiny flash head, hence the light from that large source appears more diffused, or softer.

what's the use of the UV filters anyway? Is it really necessary?

Btw, emailed many shops alreadt for E-quote but only 2 replied.

You reallyreallyreally need to read through your own thread carefully. I wrote on the purpose of UV filters earlier on this thread.

UV filters are used mainly to protect the sensitive front element (first piece of glass from the front of the lens) from scratches. To replace a UV filter is much cheaper than to replace a front element group.

;p so sorry...

but again, wont that extra piece of plastic make the picture quality less sharp?

It will, but marginally. That said, don't go for cheapo filters. At the very least, get a Hoya UV-guard. If you can afford it, go for Hoya's SHMC range, Kenko's Pro1 range, or B+W MRC UV filters.

for OP, do ask if it is local wty support OR just shop wty
dun see tat its cheap thn just buy

I don't know why, the first thought of more X for the zoom, it goes to the Nikkor 18-200mm VR. Maybe the threadstarter may consider about the Nikon systems as well.

My whole Nikon system got stolen last year, and it is time for me to consider to switch camp(never use canon system before, used Nikon for more than 10 years already) i hope the 40D won't let me down. :D
