2) 4GB Extreme III - $68
3) Speedlite 580EX II - $650

5) lowepro stealth reporter d200 AW - $120
6) b+w mrc uv 77mm - $100

I just bought a 40D a week ago,

These are what I got so far within a week (in order):

2) Canon 55-250mm IS
3) Digicab 30L

I intend to get 430EX (on my wishlist as of now)... but still thinking, heart pain to let go $450+/- for a flashlight

Uhh IsenGrim.. you've been playing too many games now =X

This will be more useful:

Basically, Lets say you look through a box while standing at one spot. Take that to be 50mm (normal vision). You focus on an object about 10 meters away. Nearer you walk, the bigger the object gets in your vision. Thus, the nearer you walk, the smaller the angle of view is with respect to your starting point. Vice versa if you're 'walking backwards'.

You have a good budget. 40D kit1 + 55-250 + 430EX + accessories is a definite way to go.

haha seeing that TS is 18 years old boy, i guess he must have played alot of games too!
and looking at things in a creative manner is part of my training! towards being a director!!!!!

and dear TS, i second headshot's 40D kit1 + 55-250 +430EX. level up abit more, loot more gold from the monsters. later den get better weapons. ;)

Go and get a 40D with kit lens (around $1,800+/-) & a dry cabinet (around $200+/-).
Total budget around $2,000+/-, within your budget.
Then go & shoot more, learn, experience, like on-the-job training OJT.
The rest can come slowly with bigger budget & more experience.
(That's what I'm doing now too, DSLR newbie).

thanks all for your help! :D... noted all of them...

actually my dad was discussing with me just now as he wanted a EF 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM DO (~$1139 ) lens instead of the 55-250mm one. But i told him if he got that, we would be missing out on the 55-70mm portion right?

55-70 is a mere one to two steps. For the price you're paying for the DO lens, I'd rather get the 70-200 f/4L. Sure it doesn't have IS, but it has a constant f/4 aperture, and besides, most casual shooters (unless taking photos of birds is your idea of casual) don't shoot anything that requires focal lengths longer than 200mm.

hmmm...

i would be using the DSLR to take "people". Eg. those on stages...

i'm considering on bringing the DSLR overseas... or maybe just the digicam... because of the white and big lens ..haha..

WOW... the 70-200 sure does look BIG but the images it produces really looks REALLY REALLY great!!!

might be going for the IS one because my dad wants them good to last

EF 70-200 f/4L (~$577 )
EF 70-200 f/4L IS (~$1018 )

Wahhhh does your dad need another son? I also need IS.. :bsmilie:

Cheers for your dad. So supportive.
LOL.

holy ****... how come after conversion the IS 70-200 becomes $1800?!?!

i don't think i can get that already. Too expensive.

Guess i have to change plan.

EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS : CP-M $370

or

EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM: AP $1,250

Which one is better?

Imo, the 70-300 because it has a USM motor in it + the price? ;p

sorry, im getting little crazy since its getting very late already :sweat:

Go for the 55-250. It's a newer lens, so it has a newer generation of IS that corrects more handshake, than the older 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM. The 70-300's USM is also not full ring USM, so while it's rather silent, it's not as fast as ring USM that you'll find on L lenses; personally I don't think the 70-300 is very worth it, compared to the 55-250, and since both produce very sharp images, why not go for the cheaper option any way.

looking to buy a 40d too... very new to photography...

looking for an all purpose lens can zoom n also wide angle... budget hope to be less than 2300

did some research on the price... i was thinking bargaincity price should be quite a gd deal since the package include all the things (we need/i want).. like the dry box, CF, bag include, extra batt also... better deal out there if i buy from shop directly with the same package????

Bargain City

- FREE 4 Gb Sandisk Ultra II CF Card
- FREE Extra 2 Gb Sandisk Ultra II CF Card (from Canon)
- FREE Extra Compatible Battery
- FREE 30Litres Dry Cabinet

i'm not very sure bout the lens quality whether is has IS, gd IQ...anyway, just choose one which is cheap n multipurpose.. lens price all from the forum... or u all have better combo??

PLUS

SIGMA
28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DG Macro --> MS $490 Total --> 2171
18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC --> MS $580 Total --> 2161

CANON
EF 28-105mm f/3.5-4.5 II USM --> MS $338 Total --> 2019

or

1859 40D kit (18-55mm IS)
The package same as the package for body only kit

PLUS

CANON
EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS --> MS $360 Total --> 2219
EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM --> MS $380 Total --> 2239
(dunno wad the diff wif the IS one.. care to explain???:dunno:)
EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM --> CP $269 Total --> 2128

so which one is a better deal??????????????? very indecisive.. or should i buy 450d with one of the lens combo from the top n save more $$$...will IT show usually offer better deal... will price usually drop a little after IT show?? :dunno::dunno::dunno:

hey if its all purpose, 1 lens fits all zoom, I would recommend the nikkor 18-200....
ahh oops canon forum. sigma 18-200!

im beginning to wonder if canon will develop a 18-200 to match the nikkor.

Hi all, this is my virgin post here ;)

May be getting a 40D soon and i'm a amateur but i want to invest in a better camera and lens so that it would last and need not change for a few years.

So regarding the lens, i want a standard lens which i picked the EF-S 17-85 IS (Kit-2) lens and a telephoto lens. I'm not sure on which one to get

EF 28-105 f/3.5-4.5 USM
EF-S 55-250 f/4-5.6 IS (wondering if the AF for this is noisy/slow?)
Or are there any recommendations (Budget <$600 + must have IS)

External flash would be Speedlite 430EX

CF card would be maybe a 8gb?(enough?), with which speed would be good? (Extreme III?)

Tripod and humidity container(please recommend cheap + good)

Also, CP, MScolour, John3:16 etc are good shops but is there a shop which sells the body + accessories + lens all at the most competitive prices so as there is not a need to go from sop to shop to buy? :sweat:

Sorry for the many questions ;p

Suggest you get the EFS 17-55 f2.8 IS. With 40D and this len, no need to change for years.
