It's interesting to see people in Jag's and BMW's queuing for hours to save sgd30.

They r the smart ones ... Don't u know their cars have big tanks... So they are saving more than compared to The drivers of the toy cars out there

I am guessing you didn't read up the last time they offer something like. Go do a search on the Straits Time's forum.

you guessed correctly. i was away from SG for the whole of last year and when did they first had such promotion?

The main problem lies with a lack of social responsibility by both Shell, and the typical Singaporean, like mohgui. As long as it benefits them, it doesn't matter if they are causing problems for other people. As long as this mindset remains, it will be tough to prevent Shell and Singaporeans from repeating this again in the near future.

from what i see, there are basically three camps here; one who are affected, one who benefited, and one who are caught in between. before you start accusing me of being 'in lack of social responsibility' you should do some checking first.

yes, i did queued for the fuel (like many other singaporeans and possibly non-singaporeans). for my case, the timing was right as i have 1/8th of a tank left... wtf... i don't even need to justify my reason for queuing. but have you ever asked me if i switched off the engine while queuing? no, you assumed that everyone who queued left their engine idling. and i choose to queue at the station where the roads are wide and traffic are not that heavy so as not to cause any traffic congestion.

anyway, i applaud you for taking the step in writing to Shell on the previous account.

i'm not going to argue further on this topic. it leads to nowhere.

peace.

I wondered if the TP was ready for this sort of thing...i take it Shell gave them advance notice.

If they wanna to offer the discount, they got to pay the price isn't it? (OT, logistics, whatever). Btw, isn't petrol stations operate 24hrs? As for additional manpower, well, maybe not necessary. Since there is minimum traffic on the road, the drivers can queue for 2 or 4 hours what.. let them queue if they like lor..

Why offer the discount and make innocent users pay the price?

Those who are keen to enjoy the savings can queue for hours.. they can go to the station in the middle of the night to pump up too.

The difference between what shell actually did and what they should have done (midnight to 6am) is,

What they actually did, it resulted in great inconvenience to innocent users on the road. And the innocent parties may not be willing to suffer the inconvenience.

What they should have done, it may cause inconvenience to those who benefit from it. And they may be willing to endure the inconveniences to enjoy the benefits.

So, isn't it better to have the promotion from 12mn to 6am.. and on a weekend even better.

And, if any shop were to offer 40% discount on camera gears from 1am to 4am, I guess many photographers will be delighted too.

but having the discount period from midnight to 0600 hours incur additional cost too. you need to pay OT for additional hands to be around. what about the auxiliary police? you need them to be around too. wouldn't this period of time be inconvenient to people too as most would want to sleep.
