OK wat, my previous A300 de ISO3200 also somewhat liddat, but slightly better. Nothing special.

True... And to me, the picture looks quite OK, for such high ISO.

I've never used such high ISO before. Seems like it's really usable.

ISO3200 ;)

Now...I wonder what would those slammers say about this.
I don't see other camps having very much of an edge over Sony in terms of noise.

I also try to prevent high ISO, but the choices only take pics with noise or not take pics at all... I choose the beginning.
Have 1 question:
Is shooting in RAW will produce less noise? (I mostly shooting in JPEG)

Not sure though cos I only shoot in JPEG too. Have tried shooting RAW on a few occassions but using ISO 100-200 only so no difference to me.

I shoot mostly in RAW, then use Noiseware (a PS plug-in) to process afterward. High ISO JPG is quite bad i think, definitely no where near Canon or Nikon.

You should have seen ISO6400 for A700 :P

If you're really adverse to noise, try Topaz denoise (free for 1 month).
It's the best  but takes 5 to 10 times longer (compared to Noise Ninja, Noiseware,..) to process the image. It can retain details while removing noise ;p
But you don't need to do that to every image, right?
Get your noisy ISO1600 or ISO3200 pics to play with it ;)

This really looks good. Seems like I haven't push the machine to it's limit.

If shooting in JPEG, then there's a good chance the noise you're seeing actually comes from DRO. After all, Nikon uses Sony sensors.

So try shooting with and without DRO. Once DRO is switched off, you should see cleaner, but less "punchy" images.
Hi Rashkae,

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried switching off DRO. The colour becomes less punchy confirmed.
But the picture does improve slightly but still appears grainy above ISP 800. No where near to the pictures submitted by Lenrek and Teodesson. The graininess is especially evident when using the 18-70. Not sure if I should buy a better lens like CZ16-80.

Hi brothers I now mostly shoot at manual mode. Picture is sharp and good. Try using the DK tactics u will never regret .As myself is also a noobies don't dare to give advices, check with the brothers of alpha and they will direct u to the right forum for the information, Good luck.:bsmilie:

HI<Brothers there I heard of a software call NIK is good in noise and retain detailed. Any brothers have use it before, can u me a tips.
:dunno:

Nik has a whole suite of plugins.

Does that mean is better to stay with ninja noise?;)

PhotoScape have a feature called 'noise reduction' as well:)

There is also Neat Image that's good :)
