zeiss 70-200/2.8 ZA is still developing, so old 70-200G is not a mainstream any more

15MP APS-C finally ready

Nothing new here... just disappointed about the 15MP APS-C... was hoping for another full frame... looks like it will be the A900 for me... got to live with 24.5MP...

haha you make it sound like it is a bad thing!

In some ways yes... I was really hoping for a D700-type full frame from SONY... I can't quite wait cos my 7D is giving up it's spirit soon... and I want back my ultra-wide of 17mm... I've waited 4 years already for a full-frame and a relatively affordable one at that... so yeah... pretty disappointed... unless SONY drops the bombshell that they will release a lower MP full-frame... then I will probably get a second-hand A700 as a stop-gap.... but there's not sign at all of this mid-level full frame... if anything they might release a higher end full-frame...

just to offer a personal opinion.
many times i dreamt about a mega-high-and-clean-iso sensor so that I can shoot in the dark and freeze action regardless of available light, without having to worry about nasty noise-reduction algorithms from destroying the details.

but everytime i surf through the Flickr, or the galleries in photo.net and deviantart, the kind of images that impress me and catches my attention are those that tell a story, with appropriate details, focus, exposure, colour, composition yaadaar yaadaar. even noisy grainy pictures can be astonishing too. even out of focus pictures can be captivating too.

but i won't be impressed by a series of super clean iso3200 20fps shots of a basketball match if they are just unphotogenic snapshots. *oh my! i love these photos! they are so CLEAN!*

but then of course, i'm not a professional and don't sell pictures for a living, so here's my perspective :)

so what are the differences between a D700 and an A900 apart from iso performance? there're infinite opportunities to make an endearing photograph out there, you don't always have to do it in the dark :)

hopefully 50-150mm is more affordable than 70-200mm...

true. if you are a hobbyist and not a pro (earn a living), the pursuit of better hardware is certainly not a need.

Actually its normally the other way round sometimes .

haha....it has been discussed often about this issue as much as the live view debate.... usually it is either-or case. when not-so-rich ppl like me want to spend a few k, we want to make sure that the camera fits our needs as perfectly as it can. some may want the higher MP but others may want the super clean high iso...it all depends on what matters to the photographers and their style. :)

Imagine a superb composition picture marred by lots and lots of noise (i acknowledge some portrait and candid shots do look good with some noise) and a superb composition picture with minimal noise, which will you prefer? I prefer to have control over the noise and where noise adds to the mood, i can postprocess it in rather than live with it.

Also, some pictures have to be taken in the dark. Concert events or night activities where flash is prohibited or may spoil the mood calls for high ISO. super-clean high iso capability allows new ways of taking photography and pushes the limits, creating much opportunities. High MP allows greater details to be captured but not sure if it expands opportunities?:dunno:

However, with the lack of a D700-equivalent camera, the A900 is a good solution with noise levels almost equivalent to A700. But 25+ MP is overkill for my application for the time being.

dang..... still waiting for a 16-200 f2.8 lens and a psp inbuilt dslr.:D

no updated bionz engine?? the new exmor R engine could do with improved NR for even higher usable ISO range

i'd rather have one with iPod inbuilt, can listen to music while shooting :bsmilie:

haha...and while they are doing that, how about adding a 42" bravia lcd as the preview screen?:bsmilie::bsmilie:

How about walkman 3.5mm jack along with the cam :P

Listen music and shoot at the same time :D
