4 months ago i got quoted 190PROB only RM360

You referring to Eng Tong?

CP told me 3 months ago that Manfrotto prices going to go up. I think there was even a thread here on CS that mentioned it - so why the surprise from everyone?

Maybe, it is about time Manfrotto moves its factory from either Italy/France to China. Then, the prices would come down. Design and R&D in Europe and then, made in China - that is the way to go.;) :)

The Manfrotto stuff is already made in China and not Italy.

HTH.

Well, if that being the case, then, we should see Manfrotto prices to be pretty affordable. But then, at the pricing at CP, I guess there must be a huge mark-up. Result - more MO and grey sets brought in by others.

Apparently, true.

Heard about it from cycling circles.

I think Cathay Photo is screwing us. Now that they are the sole agent, it seems that the are the only ones holding stock in Singapore.

I am looking for the 484 RC2, and they are trying to sell it for $83 before GST. They used to sell it for $70 before GST. $83 is the price on US web sites (which I suspect is Manfrotto's real RRP). Since nobody else has stock, they can charge us the RRP. ;(

I also asked at Eng Tong. They quoted me RM160, which is around SGD70. The Malaysian agent is much more consumer friendly.

Although we are talking about small money here, I just don't like to be screwed by anyone because of their market position... unless I have no choice. For example, I will never buy new Canon lenses in Singapore after learning that we have been creamed by about 20% for each lens we buy.

I will wait for parallel importers to bring the tripod head in, or I will just pick it up when I am in Malaysia. As consumers, I think it is our duty to teach these sole agents a lesson. Just because they are big, does not mean that they can bully us.

i always wonder why they put a price tag that is way ahead of what they actually sell. for example maybe an item with a tag of $50 will be sold to me at $27. i'm thinking if it is meant to be sold at a tagged price to the foreign tourists.....
