If only Fergie gives him more chances to shine.
His prefered wingers are Giggs, Ronaldo, Park.

Fergie gave him lots of chances but Nani's prob is that he always makes the wrong decision most of the time and he likes to shoot too often. As a winger, his assist count should be much higher.

Thats why Fergie bought Tosic and Nani's days at Man Utd are numbered unless he improve. Disappointed not to see Tosic play.

This win came at a great cost. At least 3 players received knocks. Hope Evans, Rafeal and Anderson recovers fast as they are impt to the team.

Man Utd vs Tottenham in the Carling Cup Final

Spurs went into the 2ng leg with a 3-0 advantage.
But Burnsley was leading 3-0 after 90mins.
So went into extra time.
2 goals in extra time from Pavlyuchenko and Defoe took them thru.

Actually Spurns had a 4-1 advantage..... if the score after extra time was 3-0 to Burnley they would have gone through.

Don't know why the away goals rules only apply after extra time...... Screwed up rules.

Oh my bad, 4-1 :bsmilie:

You mean if the match ended 3-0 to Burnsley they will go thru on away goal rule?
Thought there's no away goal rule in the domestic cups.

Arshavin may buy out contract as transfer stalls

12345.jpg

Andrei Arshavin could exercise a FIFA rule which would allow him to buy out the remainder of his Zenit St Petersburg contract unless a deal to sell him is agreed during the January transfer window, according to his agent.

Arsenal's attempts to sign Arshavin appear to have stalled with the Gunners reportedly refusing to meet Zenit's £18 million valuation of the Russian playmaker.

With Arsene Wenger thought to be unprepared to offer more than £12 million for the 27-year-old, Arshavin is prepared to consider an alternative means of securing a move.

''Unfortunately in this matter there is no movement,'' Arshavin's agent Dennis Lachter told the Russian press. ''The sticking point is, of course, money and rather the totally unacceptable amount of Zenit's demands for Andrei.

''The position of the club remains unchanged and that is the reality that we have faced for a long time. If the situation remains unchanged we will use Article 17 of the FIFA rules and buy-out the contract of Andrei at the club, which could happen as early as November this year,'' said Lacher.

Article 17 allows a player to break his contract after the expiry of a ''protected period'', usually after three years of a deal if the player was under 28 when he signed, or after two years if the player signed when 28 or over.

In order to exercise this right the player must pay compensation to his club using a formula based on wages and their original transfer fee, essentially allowing the player to buy out his contract and move to another for free.

''In that situation, Zenit would have to be satisfied with a much smaller amount than they are offered by representatives of Arsenal. If Andrei becomes a free agent, he will get many proposals, from England, Italy and Spain,'' said Lacher.

Zenit's general director Maxim Mitrofanov said: ''The situation has not changed since Friday, which means Arsenal would like to pay only £12 million, not one cent more. And we, at Zenit, are ready to discuss with them about maybe a better offer from our side.

''We are ready to make a step forward to them, but they should do the same. However, I have told the people from Arsenal we are ready to discuss a lot of things to make the situation easier for them.

''They have a deadline, as I understand, until 26th January, because after that, they should have some time to get another player and I respect this position.''

Arshavin established himself as one of European football's hottest properties after some eye-catching performances at last summer's EURO 2008 tournament which attracted interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, Inter Milan and Arsenal.

Some observers expected Man City to renew their interest following their failure to land Kaka earlier this week, but so far Arsenal remain the only club in talks with Zenit over a possible move.

What he needs is an Arse Shavin.... (Arshavin)

I have a feeling if Arsenal sign him, he will flop.
Russians and Ukraines like cannot adapt to English football.
Just like Ukraine stars Shevchenko and Rebrov.

The only Russian that was good was Andrei Kanchelski.

City could have signed De Jong for £2.3m

nejong-205.jpg

Manchester City have quite literally paid the price for their impatience in the transfer market after it emerged that £19m new signing Nigel De Jong had a £2.3m release clause in his contract that would activate in just four months.

The Hamburg SV midfielder completed his switch to Eastland's on Wednesday and although City were made aware of the clause they were unwilling to wait until the end of the season as they battle against relegation.

De Jong, who cost Hamburg just £1m from Ajax in 2005, is now the most expensive player to leave a Bundesliga club and his former employers are delighted with the deal.

"The club just couldn't refuse the offer," Hamburg manager Martin Jol said.

Despite City's current lowly position in the Premier League De Jong described his move as a step up after being seduced by club's lofty ambitions.

"The ideas and the planning behind this club make me very hopeful," the 24-year-old said. "It is a new adventure so I am delighted to be here."

The Holland midfielder will fly out to Tenerife to join his new team-mates at their warm-weather training camp ahead of what is likely to be his debut against Newcastle United next Wednesday.

Having had a quick glance at the Blues' impressive home, De Jong has the feeling he will like his new surroundings.

"The stadium looks great and it can only be better when it's full of people," he said.

"I am looking forward to playing here because everybody knows that the Premier League is maybe the biggest competition in the world."

De Jong is City's third major signing of the January transfer window following the arrivals at the City of Manchester Stadium of Wayne Bridge and Craig Bellamy.

Haha :bsmilie:
Hamburg profit £18m from the deal.
Man City could have saved £16.7m if they waited 4 more months.
No wonder Hamburg was so eager to get this deal done.

Yes, the away goals rule only applies after extra time but once it gets to extra time, those Burnley guys got no chance as Spurs are fitter.

BTW, its Burnley without the S in it. There is also another club called Barnsley.

Real Madrid target Arsenal boss Wenger

Real Madrid presidential contender Florentino Perez will make the appointment of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger the cornerstone of his election campaign.

"Florentino wants to make Wenger both coach and general manager of Real this summer - and will promise it will happen," a source close to Perez told The Mirror.

Perez is the favourite to win the presidency following the resignation of Ramon Calderon over a vote-rigging scandal and will also target Gunners skipper Cesc Fabregas and Kaka, from AC Milan.

The 61-year-old Perez was the architect of Real Madrid's galactico era between 2000 and 2006 and was elected as president on the back of a promise to sign Luis Figo from arch-rivals Barcelona.

And the former Bernabeu chief is hoping the same trick will work twice.

"With Kaka and Fabregas as players and Wenger as coach, Florentino will take Real back to where they should be," the Perez contact said.

Wenger has twice rejected Perez's overtures during his 13-years as Arsenal manager; but the dual role of coach and general manager - which would mean the departure of sporting director Predrag Mijatovic - would mean far greater control at Real than previous coaches have enjoyed.

Many a Madrid president has swept to power on the promise that they will sign some of football's biggest names and have failed to deliver. Calderon promised to lure Kaka and Cesc Fabregas to the Bernabeu during his election campaign but neither arrived.

AWOL Robinho set for showdown talks

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes will hold showdown talks with AWOL star Robinho when he returns from his unauthorised break in Brazil.

The £32.5m summer signing from Real Madrid walked out of City's training camp in Tenerife on Monday, leaving club officials to admit they did not know where he had gone and casting doubts over his future at the club.

Hughes has revealed that although the 24-year-old left without permission he will return to Manchester at the weekend for face-to-face talks and hinted that he would take disciplinary action.

After speaking to Robinho on the telephone Hughes said: "Robbie left without permission, he felt that he had personal things that he needed to attend to."

"He made the decision to leave the camp, and go back to Brazil. That was not with my permission, and the situation at the moment is not really practical to get him back here, so he will be back at the weekend ready to train when we are back in Manchester at the first available opportunity" Hughes added.

Hughes also made it clear in a Sky Sports News interview his club's most expensive player has said sorry.

''He has apologised that he left without permission. He needs to be able to put his side of the story. I will put mine - and we will move on.

''There was a situation where 'Robbie' thought he had permission to go. That was not the case. I expect him to be here, working hard and training with the team. It will be resolved very quickly when he comes back.

''He was very apologetic - and he wants everyone to know he has been training on his own while he has been away and is looking forward to getting back.''

Hughes also denied initial rumours that Robinho's dash to Brazil was provoked by the City's failure to land his international team-mate Kaka.

"He has already said that himself, and he was on a plane back to Brazil when the Kaka deal was dead and buried," Hughes added. "People trying to link the two are trying to cause a little bit of mischief."

Meanwhile, Robinho has insisted that he is happy at City and says there is no rift with Hughes.

"I have a good relationship with Mark Hughes and have always respected his decisions," Robinho stated on his official website. "He is the boss!"

"I like living in Manchester and I have made many friends at the club and at the city, since I arrived last year," he said.

"I admire the Manchester City fans, who are true lovers of football and loyal to the players.

"I am looking forward to delivering as many goals as possible to help our team move to the next level."

Drogba determined to prove his worth

Didier Drogba is determined to win back his place in the Chelsea first team despite increasing speculation over his future at Stamford Bridge.

The Ivorian striker, axed from coach Luiz Felipe Scolari's last two squads, is expected to return for their FA Cup fourth round tie against Championship side Ipswich on Saturday.

Drogba's future was again under scrutiny after with speculation that he could be offloaded to Manchester City as part of an audacious Chelsea move to land unhappy Brazilian Robinho.

However, the 30-year-old feels he is in top form and wants another chance to show he is still one of Europe's leading strikers.

"I've not played for the last two matches and I'm in a hurry to return to my best level and be a first-team regular again," he said. "If you look back to last May, I've been out for four to six months and it has been very difficult for me.

"But now I feel in top form. I know what I am capable of doing and the real satisfaction for me is that my knee is completely right."

Meanwhile, Branislav Ivanovic's agent, Vlado Borozan, also claims that Hughes wants to buy the Serbian international defender.

Defender Ivanovic is reduced to being a squad player when captain John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho are both fit.

Borozan also revealed that Chelsea have allegedly rejected a £15m offer from AC Milan for his client.

Borozan said: "There is something going on with Manchester City, but Chelsea already refused a £15m offer from AC Milan."
