Made in Japan - is it a dream only nowadays?

Hi,Is it very important that made in Japan or Assembeled in Thailand.
Do you belive that Japanese can design and manufacture Nikon DSLR camera?!!!
Offcourse not,The Top japanees Company is managing directer Under speciallist From US or West Europe(The Original Owners of Thechnology)so doesnt matter Nikon is Made of Where.It is Important that desighn and Managing and Quality contol is doing by
Top technology owner West countries.

IMHO, the way the economies are developing, China is the factory of the world. So I guess, no more Made in Japan. Even Oly is made in China nowadays. Then again, it can also mean the part that has the sticker "Made in Japan" stuck on it is the ONLY part that is made in japan - and legally, they are not wrong right?

Important thing is - echoing lots of CSers' opinion - the Quality & technology must be there. Look at you Toyotas - even the $90,000+ Camrys are Made in Thailand now...

Did you know that Canon's first camera, the Kwanon, was engineered completely from Japanese-made parts shortly after Leica and Contax's first cameras were manufactured?

Just to tell something happened in late 2005.

My friend bought a Canon P&S (can not remember which model, 6MP), for her trip to Taiwan, even I recommended her to buy a Coolpix. She bought It because the canon was made in Japan. A week later my brother in law bought a Coolpix 7900, to Juizaiguo, China.

The canon failed on the second day of the trip. Coolpix still going strong.

The point is, nothing great about "made in Japan"

is it not that important, but definitely a consideration over subtle concerns of reliability. why i say subtle? becos the major part of reliability is how long and how complete the warranty cover is, and how efficient and how reasonable is their repair charges.

as for the so called "The Original Owners of Thechnology" and "Top technology owner West countries", i think that is probably not true. and we are especially in a particular field where it is apparently evident so.

i'm sure you should understand that science is an ongoing process that comes together from multiple sources.

if magnet is first discovered in country A and compass first used in country B, it doesn't mean country A & B own the entire field of navigation and all its credit.

And certainly Japan is not just a "producer". You talk about Thailand and China being "producers", true, but i hope you ain't one who is regarding Japan as part of the western world as once some had believed so. In fact, Taiwan and Korea are another two countries that is doing strongly and even leading in electronics - with the design coming from their own country, not from the west.

even the most cheapo lenses from the old days were made of metal and were made in japan. users should have rejected plastic wobbly lenses from the get go at any price but they didn't so we are stuck with poor build quality forever.

I remember when we bought our LCD TV.
The sales guy says the TV is made in japan, he showed to us the carton box.
well written made in japan.

when the tv reached our place, i checked it. i cannot find a single "made in japan" on the tv.
on myself, maybe the sales guy is describing the carton box as made in japan, not the tv.:bsmilie:
