My first food photo using my new DSLR which i bought a month ago.

Hope to see some improvements by end of this year. Hee..

Will post a photo of my bakes whenever i do bake them, or sometimes, home cooked food which i deem worthy of posting.

C&Cs are most welcome!

The focus is on ribbon stripes instead of cake itself?

Er yeah.. that was what i wanted actually. The cake wasn't that pretty so.. wanted a not so clear picture of the cake.

this will be ur starting pt! few months down the road, see ur first post and compare again. :)
then you will know how much you have improved.

there's something below the ribbon. not sure what is it. quite distracting to the picture. one more thing is... since ur focus is ur bakery products, you should still focus on ur cake and not the ribbon no matter how unsightly is ur cake. :)

I do bake too... tat was one excuse i use to buy my camera months ago. hahaha.

welcome to apad! :)

this is a nice idea, hope to see more. i thought a higher perspective with the cake/ribbon in entirety (you can leave out part of the cake, but now the framing cuts the ribbon off awkardly) would work better, but i'm no expert in food photography :dunno:

Heh. Sekali no improvement then

Oh yeah, that. Below the ribbon.

It's a sticker :bsmilie: Can't remove it.

Uh huh.. focus on the bakes from now on. Yeah, i get what u mean.. i'm not promoting the ribbon after all aye?

Baking is therapeutic! ;)

Thank you! :D

Yeah, i thought the composition was pretty 'weird' too. First time playing with ribbon on my subject. Let me try your idea the next time round!

Here's some support. I think this will be a nice, interesting thread. Keep it up!

I like the second pic, the row of slices. I remember seeing a couple of pictures about cooked dishes and they used some ingredients as decoration around, especially if the look of the dish doesn't give much hints about them. Crop a bit wider and place a single little potato in lower right corner, next to the plate. Just an idea, not sure if it will work.

now u will have 2 therapeutic hobbies!

shooting is therapeutic too. haha.

i would do without the plate. :)

could see that you focus on the edge of the bread. this is fine. but you might want to try from other angles and other arrangements too. ;p

Thanks :)

I did wanna include the ingredient but unfortunately, i couldn't get the right composition for it :(

So ended up shooting without it. Need to see more cookbooks for ideas!
