sorie to ask such a lame question. But it had been bugging mi for quite sometime. Do we stil get the pop out effect if too say same lens are used. Thanks in advance. :)

What pop out?

Alright, M8/M8.2 is pricey, have a 1.3x crop factor, rangefinger, nice body
G1 is affordable, x2 crop factor with Leica M lens with adapter, I personally don't like the faux-dSLR body, digital-zoom focusing VERY useful, live view and movie recording (GH-1) also nice
R-D1 is a cheapened out M8, 1.5x crop factor, rangefinder, so-so body, has some analogue stuff like film advance lever and all those information on the top, makes you feel old school

All of them deliver great pictures. Do take note of the crop factor.

Is TS talking about the bokeh effect when using the same lens?

I wouldnt call it a cheapened M8 honestly. After all, it is still the first Digital RF, besides, it has better WB than the M8

well... theoretically, the different crop factors do have an influence on how much dof you have, assuming you frame the shot exactly the same way.

Thanks for all ur reply. . Wat i meant was 3Deffect. Not the bokeh. . Can anyone share?

I know what you mean; really have to see the shot in order to appreciate what Leica is capable of delivering.

The sensors in the 3 cameras are different, not just in size but technology. There are plenty of reference material online about the differences. So, with the same lens, the resultant image would be different. Additionally, the M8 uses proprietary methods, through the 6-bit lens code, to draw better pictures - something that the RD1 and G1 don't do, which further widens the quality gap.

Ergo, you may get better 3D effects with Leica glass than another make on the RD1 or G1, but I doubt if they could reproduce the same results as on an M8, all things being equal. This has nothing to do with the talent and skills of the photographer, which is as important, if not more than the gear. I must also say that I have not tested this so it's only my personal opinion.

In the end, many Leica purists already consider the M8 to be not doing justice to Leica lenses with the crop factor, sensor deficiencies, etc. Personally, I can't imagine why anyone who would use Leica lenses on the RD1 or G1 regularly; perhaps with the new EP1 but I suppose only on back-up mode. But that's another story altogether...

I had the RD1s before in 2007.

In my personal opinion, less the cost, the M8 produces better files at up to ISO 320, better than RD1s and the Canon 5D, in terms of less plastic look and better colour gradations.

I only have 2 lenses: the 28mm summicron aspherical and canon 50mm f1.4 LTM.

To me, the 28mm cron asph is unparalleled and produces very sharp pictures with very excellent treatment of interface between a sharp area in focus and diffused out of focus areas (bokeh). It is also very consistent. So, for 28mm, it has to be a Leica for me.

The 28mm is my primary lens.

However for 50mm, I have tried a summicron rigid and I chose to own the Canon 50 f1.4 LTM as it is well-built, and being more affordable as a secondary lens. I like the internal reflective character wide open that gives a glow, characteristic of big aperture lenses like Noctilux, Nikon 50 f1.4 etc. The copy I have is very sharp wide open at f1.4. It is good enough for me at my budget.

So, no need for all Leicas for me.
