Leica did promise parts and service for the M8 for another 10 years when the M9 launches. 2 years have passed so 8 years to go.

Do you know what would be great? The rangefinder coupling could actually be in the form of a digital sensor, like capacitative or inductive coupling or whatever mechanical sensor they want to choose. THen have the EVF show the rangefinder patch and we attempt to focus the lens which is coupled via this mechanical sensor.
In actual theory, it should work. In practice I'm not sure. But technology has advanced to the point that it is possible.

Ok, I will seriously consider selling off my M4/3 kit in favour of an M8 maybe mid this year.

Sigh! They didn't even get the name right, GRX???
Kudos to Ricoh, it's really not easy to make it work, especially when they need to fit a focal plane in the module, unlike their current module the lenses are equip with shutter.

Indeed bro, afterall, rd1 is still a rangefinder... gxr with the m module is merely gonna be a digital solution to the m lenses, its a cold hard practical approach! Looking through the evf will certainly not be the same but in terms of performance at 1.5x crop, i think it will be close to being a good alternative, not just to rd1 but, to even the digital Ms. With the M lenses, MicroFourThird will most likely go out of the picture as with Nex, unless if they come up with a decent viewfinder...

Like GRD3, GXR has a snap mode that allows you to preset the zone focus between 1m and infinity. Interesting whether the M mount can use this. Will be very useful for street shots.

It's either Sony Nex 7 or the Ricoh GXR. Interesting time ahead.
I thought you just do that on the lens? Your m mount lens?
