M-Mount lenses on Lumix G1

CV 35mm nokton f/1.2

:bsmilie::bsmilie: Don't hesistate! But its obscenely front heavy on G1.

Personally, I find the "knobbed" lenses such as UC Hex 35m f2 easier on G1 due to its featherweight and small size.

Wow... looks like the m4/3 G1 has really breathed digital life into the classic rangefinder lenses without resorting to the ultra-expensive Leica M8 digital rangefinders!

To add on,
Pros: no need for hefty UV/IR filters, no magenta issues, no back/front focusing issues, WB is a lot better than the M8, no mirror, shutter less noise than M8, bigger LCD screen, noise control slightly better than M8

Cons: 2 x crop factor, no video, :D

Would seriously like to see what Olympus releases or if either Canon or Nikon come up with their own versions!

Very unlikely that Canon or Nikon would want to go into the M4/3 format. Doesn't really help in sale of their lenses.

Oly will definitely come up with a M4/3 body. After using manual focusing on the G1, I would suggest that if the new Oly doesn't come with an EVF (which is likely it won't come up with one, looking at the prototype), the G1 would still be my preferred choice.

Nah... Canon probably won't go into m 4/3 format but probably pursue their own "EF-R(angefinder)" camera that is compatible with their EF and EF-S lenses via an adapter. But I do think they will pursue it if it helps them to generate more revenue for a company as a whole wouldn't it? And they could easily plonk down a FF sensor! Now that would be one badass digital rangefinder... either via EVF or/with LiveView!:sweat:

Nikon could pursue their own similar version too!

What could have captured our benny's heart so quickly???? Must be something sexy and hot! Come on... show us! :bsmilie:

Well.. I am easily tempted and distracted. Last week, I thought I'll jump ship and play with long lenses. Before I even have a chance to take out the new lens, Epson R-D1x is out! Hmmm.. so tempting!

Wow. You are on your way to enlightenment.

I am on the verge of selling all my gear and only worship The One.

Actually, it was a momentary lapse of logic. I'm sane now and will be saving a bundle on UV/IR filters amongst other aggravations and tests of my patience. I think the savings alone can pay for the new Epson R-D1x already. Heng ah!

No! 400f2.8:bigeyes:

Looks like this maybe last week's flavor now. The winds have just changed and I'm back paddling back to RF!

Cheers,

u people are bad...

chiif - so far it seems the best focal length for it is to stick a M-mount 35mm on it?

yeah, having using Olympus DSLR for years, I think 35mm fits just nice on a 2x crop camera.

Canon 85mm f/1.5 LTM on Panasonic Lumix G1!!!

But shot with the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 40mm f/1.4 S.C on Epson R-D1.
ISO 400, 1/100 sec, f/1.4 using Aperture Priority mode.
Unsharpened JPEG image converted from RAW using Adobe Photoshop CS2 with White Balance correction.

Cheers,

It's just a 2min walk away from where u are now... :bsmilie:

At sub 1K price tag... I'm sure it won't hurt much. :bsmilie:
i have always had reservations about digital viewfinders, but sub 1k for a digital cam that can use the m-mounts is enticing!!

35nokton1.2 or G1?... hhhmmm... or both... hhhmmm...

CJ -> :flame: <- nw

heh.. how u? no see u for a long time. and the first thing u do is to show me a $1k+ lens...
hahaha... got budget freeze, and got no past reserves to tap on... how? :dunno:

Get bored with those "short tele" on G1 after a while. Finally found a "normal" lens:

I am a Nikon D700 user. I was looking into Sigma DP-2 until I take a click on this thread. Now, I think I am changing my mind... (I hope that my father's Leica M-Mount lenses are still OK. It has been sitting inside the dry box for the last 20 years!). Does anyone know when the GH1 will be available in Singapore and how much will it be? Also, if Olympus has a Micro Four Third Camera, will the same adapter ( and lens ) be able to work on the Olympus too? If so, at least we got 2 Camera bodies to choose from. Thanks and I really enjoy reading all the post here! I wish some of you can share more detail on the usage and how-to. It is useful for those who want to jump to this unique combination.

Welcome! First of all... take out your dad's M lenses and bring it for some suntan.... :bsmilie:

Leica lenses are meant to see light, not kept in dry box. :)

If you have moved to the "dark side" (digital), then go down to your favourite camera shop and grab a G1! Next you can get one of the M-M4/3 adapters here.

At about 1.1K, you are ready to go with ALL your dad's M lenses. Just a few months back... M users have to fork out at least SGD4.5K for the M8 and SGD7.5K for the so call updated version (M8.2)... so, at sub SGD1K, you get a very advance digital camera with a larger screen, state of the art focusing system with a AF kit lens thrown in... AND it's MADE IN JAPAN! what more can u ask for? :bsmilie:

Well... if you still remember there's something call film camera, you can immediately mount your dad's M lenses on one of his M film bodies, load a colour negative, slides or B&W negative... you are on your way to eternal happiness... like most of us on this small little sub forum are experiencing.... :bsmilie:

Well... the HD feature is enticing... but it's going to cost at least 1.5x the G1... in my opinion.

As for Oly... if it doesn't come with a EVF (Electronic View Finder), you can forget about the camera. It's almost impossible to focus with the LCD screen behind... prolong usage causes neck ache.
