Yes there is. Surveillance is one of the good use. Reporters that work in chaotic circumstances will appreciate it. You don't even need to focus, just aim at general direction and shoot. For those fast pace scenes or low light scenes where out of focus is very common, such techique helps to recover some good take, but slightly out of focus. It believe there will be a lot of real world applications that will benefit from such technology.

Fast speed? Rather skeptical about its performance. I'm not trying to be negative here. I also wish that people can benefit with this new technology.

Macro shots esp. of flying bugs where focusing is the big issue.
I clicked on their link as I thought they were new generation pico projectors..
I believe that will be much more interesting.. at least for me
