Might as well just get the Fuji F100fd... it have a slightly larger sensor and better image quality... and much cheaper... and available now. ;)
Yup...

but darn Fuji removed Av/Tv manual controls on the F100fd. I wonder if this LX3 performs well on high ISO.

i'll be happy if i can still find a fuji F30fd to replace my 1st kodak p&s cam in 03...

haven't been so excited about a new cam for sometime.. looking forward to replace my S80 compact with this :)

Writing speed for RAW was also a joke when it took more than 10 second to write a file. File size for RAW is also unacceptable @ 10 MP, its RAW file exceeds 20 MB compared to Nikon's 12 MB for 12 megapixel.

You sure about that?

Using the LX1 with a 150X SD card, RAW writing speed is only around 2~3s for me.

First image was woefully underexposed.

Second image does not qualify as a test image.

Third image is at least exposed properly.

Shooter should be shot. ;p

Anyway 10mp for a compact is 4mp too many, IMHO.

And another thing - they really should consider making hotshoe optical viewfinders, makes the whole package a little more attractive for SLR shooters, since Panny is apparently touting the LX3 to existing DSLR shooters to complement their existing gear.

Errr oops.... personal foot-in-mouth moment... :sweatsm:

Oops indeed... :) Viewfinder very nice.

Specs nice too! just hopes LX3 high ISO is comparable with Fuji's upto ISO800 can liow, can't expect it to beat Fuji's but match it upto ISO800 would be good enough. Well, just hoping for now until we can see the actual samples and proper reviews.

Some more intiail reviews, looks like something wrong with the exposure, same issue here too, underexposed.

Alright got better samples here

Ah yes, those samples are much better - pity they're size-reduced, but of course Panny would not take chances on pre-production firmware.

The flower shot displayed some subject separation, which is normally non-existent in compacts.

It also has spot-metering for instances where the cam's matrix metering is not to be trusted; now waiting for a RAW sample to torture, but it is starting to grow on me, especially the black version with the viewfinder!

The LX3 is looking good... check out the HK launch here: http://www.dcfever.com/campaigns/2008/ricoh_gx200/index.php

The new lens is sharp, JPEG engine appears very good, ISO 400 is very clean for a compact and ISO 800 can probably be used if processed in RAW or scaled down.

I am surely getting one to partner my LX1... LX3 for wide and LX1 for tele... :D
