er, recording of video needs a faster card compared to burst mode.

I dun mean to ask a stupid question but just gt my cam yest and I tot aperture is only f/2 - f/2.8 so can ask hw to get f/8?

if I understand your qn correctly, to get f/8 you should set to aperture mode, then push the little joystick up until you get f/8?
Was that what you meant?

To any crazy people like me,
who wants to fire a Nikon Speedlight on the LX-3.

LX-3 fires SB-600 (in auto or manual) accurately on shutter release but without TTL.
i.e. best to use manual mode and input flash power to get correct illumination.
the hotshoe of nikon speedlights and even hotshoe cover is rather tight feet on LX-3, but won't damage your LX-3.

The thing about large aperture is its meant for short distance focussing with good bokeh. For "long distance shot" landscape shots where you want sharp images all the way through, you typically set a smaller aperture like F/12 or F/16. Unfortunately, this camera stops at f/8 max. So its a compromise of having a fast wide lens against less sharp landscapes.

Bro,

All valid points but applicable for a APS-C or FF sensor bodies only. The small sensor of the LX-3 or other digicams already gives a very deep DOF so by f5.6 you are already getting equivilant DOF of about f12 (just rough estimate) :)

Pentax / Nikon / Canon all use APS-C sized sensors and the DOF is still deeper compared to a FF body. Lets say D300 using a 50 f1.4 lens vs a D700 with the same 50 1.4 lens. You need smaller aperture on the FF (D700) body to match the D300.

To put it in simple words, D700 @ f2 (with a bigger sensor) will give "more" bokeh compared to D300 @ f2 for the same lens lol!

So f8 max for a LX-3 is quite deep already for a digicam, there is no compromise!

Correct me if I am wrong please, I am a noob myself

anyone saw the new lumix flash for the LX3 ? Why can't they make something that is small , light weight and has the ability to bounce like the SB400 hopefully can bounce in portrait orientation too ? The new flash looks crap . :thumbsd:

Try to get the METZ 28 AF-3O. Small compact and its the same one which Leica will be releasing for the DLUX4. ;)

Can only get from Amazon.com or some other US online retailers. Europe side quite expensive around 2 times more than the US price. But chances of getting the right firmware version is higher in Europe as compared to US. The trouble to get the firmware flashed can be a nightmare for some. =.="

US Amazon is selling it for USD$149. That time I paid USD$145 with postage to Vpost USA. Then come back another 36 bucks with insurance. That excludes the cost I send it back again for firmware upgrade. Zzzz. Anyway money well spent since now I don't get the shadow when I use a wide converter.

Thanks for sharing.:) That makes sense now that you mentioned it..
But then that means the earlier question of why shots are soft for landscapes is unaswered again. ;p

Haha... that I have no clue bro.

Is it only a particular user having this issue or generally all of them?

I plan to get LX-3 soon myself :)

You want a PNS but will go and use the Nikon SB800 or SB900 ?

I might as well carry my D90 and use the Nikon SB800 or SB900.

The SB400 does not work with any PNS except with Nikon Camera, I've tried it with my Ricoh GX200 and now the LX3.

There will be a new firmware for the LX-3 available on 15th December. Better auto WB, plus compatibility with some new flash.. get it from the link below on 15th Dec;

http://avc-cs.panasonic.net/faq/1033/doc/html/dsc/en/index.html

Also Lightroom 2.2 will support RAW from the LX-3. That should be out around the same time with some caveats on DGN conversion.

The latest ACR 5.2 already supports it.

There's no support for XP and you can't see the thumbnail when shooting in Panasonic RAW file.

anyone know where to get a comprehensive manual online for LX3? The one comes with the camera is so basic. I am still struggling with Close-up shot, how close can u get to the object? How to get the micro mode?

IA mode is able to select macro automatically if you choose a subject v.close to the lens..

Close enough for you to take macro.
Any closer, you end up with a scratched leica lens.:bsmilie:

thanks bro, it explains a lot of things why i cannot get the bokeh effect, and focus on the thing that i want etc.

it seems that i have been shooting for the whole day on AF Micro, lucky all my shots including my night shots at the Victoria Peak turn out ok, well i supposed it could be better

i only got the camera the day before i fly to HK, now still on holiday in HK. :)
