Received my 52mm lens adaptor yesterday which I got off eBay. Made of aluminum. Build-quality is good. The lens cap is just so-so, so now I'm using a Nikon cap instead. Here are some pics of it with varies accessories for my DSLR. No vignetting effects detected @ full zoom, even with the polarizer stacked on top of the another filter. For flash, there is cutoff of varying degrees depending on the zoom level and what is attached.

no, it is possible to achieve this not in the macro mode, if you shoot wide open at f2.0, the bokeh will be very beautifully rendered....
other digicam just can't give you this....

Hello guys, just got my LX-3 a week ago, but I'm a real newbie with cameras so would like some help to create those great pictures you guys have.

Got a few dumb questions, hope you guys don't mind answering..

1) Can I only use different shooting modes (eg. dynamic B&W) when shooting manually? Why is it not possible to use during intelligent auto mode?

2) Let's say I want to take a regular macro shot. The only thing I need to do is set focusing to autofocus macro, right?

3) What is "AF/AE Lock"? I know what's AF or AE, but what's the button used for?

4) How do I use manual focus? Cannot use in IA mode I know(Why again?), how else do I use it?

5) Is there any place where I can learn to use all the manual settings like controlling aperture, shutter speed and all the other stuff? It's really quite daunting for beginner like me to pick up all of these..

6) I'll be at a dinner next week, where I expect light to be relatively dim. I will be taking mostly pictures of me and other people. What settings do you recommend I use? Advisable to use flash? Would a tripod be really, really helpful?

Been using this cam for less than 2 weeks.
The mid range and below is really fantastic!! Low light is awesome!

But somehow, I'm a little disappointed by the quality of objects that are far away. Dunno is it because of the settings or whatever. or the auto focus? This is the first time I using a cam with manual controls, so far only know how to point and shoot.

Anyone having the same feeling? Or its me?

U need to adjust the aperture settings. It ranges from F2.0 to F8.0.
Learn more abt aperture at wiki or google. Try shooting it at diff settings to see the results.

Use P mode, P mode is the similar to IA.

Can use Manual focus to take marco too.

Turn to P mode and focus to Manual. IA = Idiot Automatic:bsmilie:

Can go to the library to read up or Turn to P mode, half trigger... and see the readings of Aperture and shutter.... try it on bright areas and dark area...

adviseable to use ISO 400 & above. Turn to Aperture Priority mode F2.0 and start snapping all the way with it. Bring a tripod along.

bro, think you need to read your manual... it tells you when you can/cannot do certain things.

yes, borrow a basic photography book from the library. it's free! you can also look online, maybe at photo.net or similar sites.

since you're new to the camera, i'd recommend:
1. flash, iA mode
2. no flash, P mode. you can try auto ISO, with max of 800.
then you can decide if flash or no flash is better. i'm sure ppl won't mind posing for a couple of shots at a dinner.
i don't think a tripod would be very helpful. where are you going to put it and who's going to wait for you?

The thing about large aperture is its meant for short distance focussing with good bokeh. For "long distance shot" landscape shots where you want sharp images all the way through, you typically set a smaller aperture like F/12 or F/16. Unfortunately, this camera stops at f/8 max. So its a compromise of having a fast wide lens against less sharp landscapes.

I dun mean to ask a stupid question but just gt my cam yest and I tot aperture is only f/2 - f/2.8 so can ask hw to get f/8?

f2-2.8 is the largest aperture that you can get at different length

f2 at 24mm
f2.8 at 60mm

I got a question. Is high speed memory card is mainly used for burst mode? If so, since LX3 burst mode is fixed regardless of the speed, does this mean that there is no point getting a card that is of higher speed?
