Big? Are you looking at the right camera? I am talking about the Ricoh GR-Digital.

Panasonic LX-1 is bigger and feels more plasticky than the GR-D

You got to see the comparision, http://www.letsgodigital.org/html/review/ricoh/gr/digital_camera_EN3.html

GR-D LX-1
Width 107.0 mm 106.0mm
Height 58.0 mm 56.0mm
Depth 66.5 mm 26.0mm :dunno:

Dude, the LX-1 has a budging lens when powered down. GR-D is actually much compact.
I suggest u go down to the shop and try both cameras hands-on. On paper, LX-1 looks impressive, but when it comes to the actual handling and feel, GR-D wins hands down. :sweatsm:

Simply GR-D has Magnesium alloy body and not plastic.

wow! So sharp even Smith Street name is legible! I doubt my F10 can be this good. ;p

Can. I had pit the F10 against GR-D and its no slouch.

Compact? I love my IXUS 55.

I had a GR1s and loved it.

But with digital, the game has changed.
The only attractive part of GRD is the 21mm adapter.
Otherwise, GRD doesnt seem to have a competitive edge over the zoom lens LX1. I won't be bothered if it is alumimum or plastic or gold plated as long as it is light weight and tough enough for normal picture taking.
I've read some negative comment on the focusing and operation of the GRD. Don't seem to see much review on this camera though...

This is so damn misleading when the dimension did not include the lens that sticks out and comes with a cap. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

True, it doesn't come with a zoom and that could be a pain. Focusing wise, it could be a little noisy. Its Passive AF BTW. Operation wise I guess is rather subjective but I believe icarus is finding it great. To me, its a little undiscovered gem.

Yup, i agree with you on that as i owned a R1 and the GR1. However ricoh hasn't been in the competitive edge in the digital arena. I also like the 16.9 feature on the LX-1, it give a new & interesting perspective.

I'm using the LX1 so often that my 1Ds is now collecting dust. So I've just decided to put the 1Ds up for sale....

This is the only thread that I see a DSLR is dumped for a compact... :o
Most of the time, I see people selling off their P&S to upgrade to DSLR at B&S.
But the pics you haven taken here are really very nice.
Love these 2 shots especially.

You have confirmed again my decision to buy a FZ5 few
weeks back is correct.
I will of coz still keep my DSLR.
But just a reminder to everyone again, though this had been mentioned
numerous times.
It is the photographer that make the picture, else later
you will be surprised how come your LX1 don't take as nice picture as
weekh. :bsmilie:

No lah... I'm dumping the 1Ds but I'm still keeping the SLR system which includes dozens of lenses and accessories... Thinking of upgrading so that I can dump the LX1 and start using the DSLR again.. ;)

Before I move into digital, I'm a keen user of compact p&s.

The LX1 really shiok to use. Still can't get over with it yet.

I think it will be fun to have a photo outing with all the LX1 users.
This coming Wednesday.... how? Anyone interested?

High iso, F10 sure lose, as GR-D can shoot RAW. Plus, the F10 almost always choose f2.8 how to be sharp? The fujinon lens is no slouch, but you don't pay almost 1K for nothing. GR-D rocks too! I'll bet my last $. ;)

Ricoh takes 14s to save Raw, making it not useable to some. Of course, i do agree that it had some "premium" features that make it a keeper.

So any LX1 users wanna join me for a shoot out this Wed?

Hi weekh,

How long does it take to save one raw format to the SD card? Thanks
