Thank you thank u all so prompt reply. Now so many recommendation i also blur. I compile the list : FX 7, FX 2, LZ2, FZ 3. Only one DMC LC 70. (why can't they come up with easier remember names?!)
To answer some question, trek no waterfall. Think kota kinabalu maybe.
(still thinking, dunno can survive or not)

Maybe go read up the specifications first then see how.
Waterproof is good lah is not too expensive. Less noise and very important battery life. And weight too.. otherwise might as well bring bulky slr. Don't want to buy the best cuz still like film alot and don't want give myself reason not to bring it out.

Ask you guys again if need help.

wooz (its a her.)

Do note FX7, FX2 and LZ2 has no viewfinder. FZ3's Electronic viewfinder while LC70, LC80's optical viewfinder. Something useful to have for a good shot. Optical VF  .

OT here: KK is a good place for nature shots. Hope to see your pics soon.
Are you heading for the white water rafting? And do be careful if you are heading to Fern Scully. Dangerous place to go!

OT: Maybe I can start making simple water-proofing bags for FZ-10's/ FZ-20's which use Phayee adaptors.

Few things to decide on camera to bring along when you going up KK.

1. Your budget....do you plan to use the camera for other occassion as well after this trip ? or is only meant for this trip ?

2. How much weight do you think is acceptable ? KK is a long way up, light weight items can feel like a ton when you are very very tired.

3. How bulky a camera do you think is acceptable? This takes up space and if carry around the neck bulky camera can be troublesome sometime when trekking.

4. How much optical zoom you think you will need? My recommendation is go for a minimum of 3x zoom. If you are into macro as well, then you have to factor in this requirement as well.

5. Batteries life and and way to recharge (if possible).

From above, you will be able to narrow down your list.

[Will get flame for this, posting this in Panasonic Forum - Putting on FLAME SHIELD]
Don't get me wrong, Lumix are good camera, but don't limit yourself to this range alone.

If you are into smaller than palm size camera, Canon IXUS are great little camera.....but more pricey.

[FLAME SHIELD OFF]

No Flame at least not from me :P Canon Ixus is out for that price, think i'll rather get a new lens for my cam, altough its nice and light. To answer you question, no its not just for this trip only. Just a reason for me to buy heh heh. Not so rich lah.. Will use it for other ocassion. And yes 3x zoom is what i'm looking for. I suppose LC 70 has it? (no time do research yet) Why Panasonic because its leica! Yeah sucker...

Thanks for all the concern about KK. Sounds like you all been there too. Actually... i haven't plan anything yet. Just a thought maybe later this year. Need time to train, bad knees/back too. Hence wants to buy a small light weight digi. Don't want break my back.

What's a about this Fern Scully? Haven't done my research as usual. But plan to stay around the NP after the climb.

Cheers

Ixus slogan is wat... when style meet quality?? something like tat lah... I never like Ixus small and no use... heee... only got Style, but style is not worth so much...

If u wan to have a full range of zoom and yet small camera, i would still like to recommend FZ3... haaa... need to post more... kevin register 1 mth 100 over post... me here so long only 300 ++ post...

Check out some of the cams recommended. Seems like LC70 win hands down. Got spot metering, optical VF, AA battery. Not sure about OIS...Can share what you like or dislike about LC70? There's a new LS 2? Any comments?

LC-70 ;No OIS. I dun own one so can;t say like or dislike. But as any Lumix owner will tell you its good quality.Well built. Easy to use menu.Best value for money now, cheaper than new models.
Have a nice Leica label in front you can wow your friends with...people always say..wow you got Leica lens  . Sort of like carrying an LV bag and peole stare at :bsmilie: . I got a feeling Panasonic will not stick a Leica label on their P&S cams anymore.
If you want more opinions go read http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/read_opinions.asp?prodkey=panasonic_dmclc70
Hope that helps.

Lecia? mm.. i dun think any of my friend will know lo. but for ur own self, u know la. I think it more to urself than ur surrounding. I have been talking to my gf abt D70 for couple of months. and she still can tell me if it is from canon! :P haha..

I can wait... but in the meantime i've narrow down to LC 70 and FX2. Quite a difficult choice to make with latter having OIS but huge battery consumption? I've read people comparing FX series.. anyone comments on LC and FX?

think i know the same people sunkist does. Leica?! LV? yes yes... for me i know is what's that matter. my $$

i still think fx2 better than fx7... haaaa... dun mind me... cos he wans a 3,4,5 mp camera for hiking mahz... fx2 have better battery life, and less noise, and almost the same size as fx7 and most important it is cheaper..
FX2 actually eat more batt than FX7, because more LCD pixel, its not the screen size actually.

Canon IXUS uses lousy type of lens for slimmer size, somemore very prone to shake since its slimmer
