Looking for a ultra-wide angle zoom for my D750

Paiseh bro undergrd, I am not a fan of fisheye. Can I add some of my requirements for the ultra wide angle lens as below: Purpose: for shooting landscape timelapse Requirements: 1) less than S$1,500 2) must be a fast lens, aperture must be F2.8 or better 3) must have auto focus 4) must have thread to put filter 5) not fisheye Thanks

Nikon 20mm f2.8 afd. Sure fit your budget.

You didnt put in requirement must be quiet or sharp in edges :p

Thanks bro alfie, but how is Nikon 20F1.8 compared to this ?

Thanks

Based on my knowledge, i think v difficult to find a lens that fit ur requirements.

Samyang 12mm fisheye - failed: fisheye, no autofocus, cannot put filter.
Samyang 14mm - failed: no autofocus, cannot put filter.
Nikon 14-24mm - failed: Cost more than $1,500, cannot put filter.
Nikon 16-35mm - failed: not f2.8 & better.
Nikon 18-35mm - failed: not f2.8 & better.
Tamron 15-30mm - failed: Cost more than $1,500, cannot put filter.
Sigma 12-24mm - failed: not f2.8 & better, cannot put filter.
Tokina 16-28mm - failed: cannot put filter.
Tokina 17-35mm - failed: not f2.8 & better.

Think the best bet will be Nikon 20mm f1.8 which will fit all your requirements.

Thanks buddy for your analysis ... looks like quite tough hor ? :dunno:

what about Sigma 20 F1.4 ? Can put filter ?

Looks like the 20mm f1.8 fits your needs. Btw why the f2.8 requirement for landscapes?

Ok boss, I let you know my reasons but don't flame & laugh at me, ok ?

You see, I already have the kit lens 24-120 F4. So technically, at the widest angle, I am already able to do 24mm F4.

So, I reckon if I am going to pay 1.5K, I should at least have an improvement of 1 stop in the aperture from F4 to F2.8. After all, the improvement in focal length is only 4 mm (ie from 24mm to 20mm).

I was hoping that there is a 14mm F1.8 lens in the market ... lol ... :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

On another note, I already have the m4/3 filter system, using Lee Sev5n filter system which can go up to 76 mm, iirc. If the diameter of FX lens is 76mm or smaller, can I use this Lee Sev5n filter system ?

Thanks

Got 14mm F1.8 at below $1500 I also want.

As most of the seniors here have contributed in terms of advise or opinion, I think the closest matching your 5 requirements is still a 20mm F1.8.

I own the 16-35mm F4 which I use for travel frequently which I would probably pack 1st, just upgraded from a AFD 20mm F2.8 (use it to travel light and small plus some astrophotography which is suitable still for a F2.8) to a AFS 20mm F1.8 which is really sharp and a definite improvement to the older AFD for use on my D810.

As for the Lee Sev5n, no experience with it and you probably need to mount and check against the largest diameter lens you think you might use with the filters to see if it fits or there is any vignetting. I'm using the Haida 100mm series and since it is already 100mm , it can also fit comfortably with my Nikon V2 vs smaller cannot fit bigger DSLR lenses.

I think so too

Can share your experience on the use of the Nikkor 20mm F1.8G ?

Did you use it for landscape ? If you set the aperture at wide open, will there be vignettes ?

Ok, I think also have the Haida system. Thanks

Definitely will be using the AFS 20mm F1.8 for landscape primarily and also some night/astro for sure.

Have not got to testing it extensively yet to comment on the vignetting part but I am sure there are no perfect lenses and extreme pixel peeping will still require some "manual legwork" workaround.

A link you may or may not have come across : https://photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-20mm-f1-8g-ed/2

Hope it helps.

Not sure but I prefer a G lens over a D lens ... lol

I am getting the Nikon 20mm F1.8 soon ... :)

Have used it primarily with AFS 16-35mm F4, AFD 20mm F2.8, AFD 35mm F2 maybe a few times, Nikon 1 10mm (with step up rings) and now the AFS 20mm F1.8.

Ok good, I also have the Haida 100 series.

Between the 16-35/F4 and 20/F1.8, now that you purchased the latter, which one you prefer for landscape now ?

Thanks

Both useful... most Landscapers I know will have both and a Sigma ART 50mm
