TORRES FOR £40M?
If Martin Broughton thought he could stop all the speculation by simply saying that Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard are not for sale, then he is a very naive man.
It lasted all of 24 hours before the Sunday Mirror claimed that 'Manchester City will attempt to cash in on the chaos at Liverpool by offering the Merseyside club £40million for Fernando Torres'.
With Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti more or less ruling out a move - "Torres is a fantastic player, but comes with a very expensive price tag. I won't go for him in the summer because, with Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka in the squad, it's difficult to think about signing him" - City apparently fancy their chances.
'But why would he join City?' you may well be asking. £200,000 a week and an escape clause next summer if they don't qualify for the Champions League is apparently the answer.
