The projected cost of building Liverpool Football Club's new stadium has rocketed to "at least £400m".
The news of the £150m hike comes from the club's co-owner Tom Hicks, who together with fellow American George Gillett took over the club in March.
The Stanley Park stadium will have a capacity of 60,000 - 15,000 more than Anfield - when it opens, but that could increase to 75,000 in the future.
Plans go before planners at the city council on 5 November.
Mr Hicks said he was not worried about the radically revised figures: "I'm so excited about the new stadium because we'll be able to go do things for the fans we've never been able to do for them.
"Our fans are wonderful and over time we'll be able to give them the amenities, comfort and ease of getting tickets they have never had before."

Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has been warned by the club's owners they expect him to win silverware after spending £40m in the summer. (various)
RAFA - I FEEL NO PRESSURE
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has brushed off talk that he is under pressure at Anfield.
There have been growing murmurs of discontent on Merseyside following an indifferent run of form lately.
The Reds face an uphill battle to reach the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League after only taking one point from their opening three games in Group A.
It has been suggested Benitez's position is under pressure ahead of this weekend's visit of league leaders Arsenal, but the Spaniard is not worried about the speculation.
When asked if he felt under pressure, Benitez said: "I don't think so, it's part of the job as a manager.
"Every week if you lose you will be under pressure, if you win then you are the best manager in the world. We just need to keep going."
Benitez is confident his side will bounce back to form against Arsenal at Anfield following Wednesday's shock defeat to Besiktas.
"When we played against Everton I said a derby would be a different game and it could be the same against a top side like Arsenal," added Benitez.
"They are top of the table now, but our team has confidence.
"The players are ready and for me they are playing better than before and we have a lot of positive news."
