Life on the streets

LOOK HERE

What's over there is unique as much as what's over here. We often think it's better over there and miss what here has to offer.

BEYOND THE WATCH $image-501041945.jpg
I felt that this watchman was communicating with me telepathically. The message: "Don't just watch, observe.

NAVIGATING THE LINES $image-3394147014.jpgVertical lines in a composition convey strength and stability. Think about buildings and trees and you'll know what I mean. In this photo, I was attracted to the contrast of the abundant vertical lines and the subtle curves on the floor. This woman, in my opinion, connects the two planes perfectly, because she possesses both elements of the vertical and the curve.

LOVE WHAT YOU DO

When we talk about a chef, the pictures in our minds are always the glamour of his end products - the delicious food. We often missed out all the hard works in the background that will lead up to him performing in that magical place known as the kitchen. In the back lane of Clarke Quay, this chef tediously snipped the stems off a big box of dried chilli. I wondered if this is what he does on a daily basis, among other ingredients? Such is the fact behind every job. There're much preparatory and ground works to be done before the actual delivery. Loving them will testify that you really love what you do.

BACKSTAGE
$image-2897727784.jpg
I like to roam back alleys during my photo ventures. Other than the amazing textures and lighting, the biggest draw to these places is the way life is depicted there. Back alleys pull no punches to show what backstage really is, how hard people need to work to present a good front stage, where main businesses are conducted. I was glad I could photograph this man who redefined "handsfree" here.

HIGH TEE

What started out as an underwear has revolutionised very much what we are wearing mainstream today. Ladies and gentlemen, behold the t-shirt! Its estimated global sales is a whopping two billion pieces annually. Lesson from the t-shirt: don't stay hidden, come out to the light of day. You'll never know what you can achieve.

I wear a T-shirt everyday...today I had two of them on... :)

Name me someone who doesn't own a t-shirt. (:

LETTING IT OUT

Gas, like electricity, is every much a necessity in our daily lives. I marvel at how we can store and use it when needed. The most common use of gas for any urban household is to fuel fire for cooking. In this photo, these cylinders aren't the only gas containers. If you'd think about it, the human body holds gas too. The two containers release gas for different reasons. Please be discreet. Pray it doesn't smell.

ROUTINE

Someone said that the secret to our future lies in our daily routine. Food for thoughts.

GOOD BYE GOOD BUY
$image-1548457500.jpg
Don't you agree the internet changes much the way we buy things? We can buy almost anything online. So why bother going to the store? I can give a few reasons: delivery time and what you see isn't what you get. The authentic retail experience involves senses other than the eyes. See that handbag? How does the texture feel? Can you smell the newness of the leather? Can you hear how slick the metal buckle latches? I guess not. That's why we go to the store. Move it.

I WAS HERE
$Dad with love.jpg
The selfie generation. Who are they? We associate them much with our youths and pinned them with negative labels such as self-absorbing and narcissistic. Truth be told, the act of photographing ourselves isn't exclusive to the young. I've known quite a few up-to-age peers who's part of this lifestyle. Unashamedly, I've taken quite a few selfies myself. Why do we do this? Simply because we can. We've become the most documented generation in the history of mankind. To me, it should be more about "I was here" than "see how good I look". Smile.

Thanks much for visiting bro!

TWO ARE BETTER THAN ONE
$image-1142202539.jpg
"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up." Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

EXPRESS YOURSELF
$image-2248399663.jpg
Self expression is important. It helps us de-stress and builds confidence within. Go ahead and write, dance, photograph, play the piano or like this boy, sing. The world is my stage.

WITH YOU

It doesn't matter it's this world or a virtual world. What matters is you're there.

GRAND UPGRADE

Being a granddaddy has all the fun of being a dad without much of the pains.

BLOOD CONNECTION
$image-1250716198.jpg
I'm not a native of this digital age. All of what I do on my smartphone are picked up in adulthood. The natives are the new generation who are borned into this age of wifi, 4g and connectivity. If you have a child, I betcha he will have more Instagram followers than you. Let's be vigilant with our young, don't leave life's teaching to the Internet. Never loose that connection with them.

WHATS MY BRAND?
$image-3252226274.jpg
Branding. We associate it with businesses and advertisements and we chase after many brands. But the most important brand we should be concerned with should be that of our own. Consider carefully: What's my brand? How do I want to be known?
