Portillo returns to Real, Morientes departs


MADRID, Jan 13 (Reuters) - Real Madrid have recalled striker Javier Portillo from his loan spell at Fiorentina to fill the gap left by the departure of Fernando Morientes for Liverpool.
Real said that they had not had to pay any compensation to Fiorentina for recalling the 22 year-old, who joined the Serie A side at the start of the season after Morientes returned from his loan spell at Monaco.


Portillo broke a stack of Real Madrid's scoring records as he came through the youth ranks, scoring a total of 726 goals in eight seasons , but was unable to win a regular first-team place at Fiorentina.

He will return as fourth-choice striker at Real behind Ronaldo, Raul and Michael Owen.
