having said that, welsh had been liken to gerrard and if i remember correctly, he is the captain of the england u-21s? dare we hope for another...but dunno about his abilities cos he never really featured much.

some can pass as well as him, maybe better. others may be more skillful. but what makes gerrard so valuable to a team is that he inspires the others. he lends a kind of frenetic energy to the team. and all this ability in one package.... in my opinion, not molby, not barnes, not even king kenny can match it. what we have in gerrard is a technically superb player who is also a natural leader and is able to drive his teammates on to perform at a higher level. i hope he stays because replacing him would be a nightmare.

Stevie G really gives his all everytime he plays. he's a model professional.

Strange to see people regard Litmanen as our best signing.... No doubt, he's a great player, prob the best Finn that plays the game. Great Ajax player as well.

However, in his 1 season in liverpool, he was not really given the role and opp to shine by Houllier. He's so disappointed that he rejoin Ajax and subsequently retired. Hence, i do not rate him as our best signing. Biggest name signing maybe since players like Alonso, Kewell etc are not in the GREAT category when they join us.

I have no doubt about Lit quality at the time he joined Liverpool. But his creative style playing as supportng striker dun fancy Houllier.. Indeed, GH preferred Smicer. What the heck ?? Lit is a Liverpool fans but Smicer is not.

Dun be so pessimistic... Chelsea is rich but have no strong youngsters coming up as players like Huth and Carlton Cole dun get the chance to play...

why they need youngster..when the current players are aging...the Russian can play the best young player in the world.. Oil is getting less production every year...thus...Oil price can only go up. With the amount of money sitting in the tycoon pocket...they dun need academy.. They need a Treasury more to manage the $.

but the biggest wrench has to be seeing Fowler leaving Liverpool...

Folwer my fav liverpool player. It is sad to see him go. But I believe GH made the wrong decision. U sit in the injury ward more than playing on the field. We are lucky to get 15m from offloading him.

think we' will really need to contain their wingers. if we can cut them off out wide, the game is ours. there's where they are strongest and where they often pull defences apart.

A good pair of effective wingers are very important. Look at MU glory, they had Giggs and Beckham...Look at Chelsea (even better now) with the reinforcement of Robben and Duff, Arsenal with Ljunberg and Pires. Unfortunately, Kewell + Diouf, Kewell + garcia, Kewell + Nunez had not performing "good" enough to be our leathal weapon.

Gerrard..once every 5 years?? We dun have anyone like him before actually! Jan Molby may pass the ball better, Souness may tackle bettr but are they better than Gerrard? I think not. Only 2 person i can honestly think they are comparable to Gerrard. Viera (when he partners Petite) and Roy Keane (in 1999 when they won CL).

when we judged a player...we look at his personal contribution and overall contribution to the team.

No doubt Gerrard is a skillful player..he can defend, attack, and score, take free kick and corner, tackle, intercept the flow. There are not many Midfielder who can defend and attack. Zidane and Scholes, worst tackle they could made. Always get yellow card when try to help to defend.

But let 's not forget that his appearance will boost up others fighting spirit, morale, and his tiredless fighting would sure to motivate his team mate.

More important, before the match start, u see "Gerrard" in the list, the opponent are feeling a little bit worried about him (feeling relief when Gerrard is injured).

and playing on the field, the opponent may try to dribble if they see Nunez...but will be in doubt when he see Gerrard is approaching him..

It is true that if we lost Owen, we lost a good player.
But we lose Gerrard, we lost the "Captain" and the "essence of the team.

SheisLaci won 1990 World Cup golden boot...he is a flop.. Everyone would rate Roberto Baggio and Paolo Maldini as the best Italians player who had player for the national side in the last 10 years.

Giggs, Rush, Mcaro van Bastern who had never scored a single goal in World Cup.

If u need a legend, Liverpool has used to have a World Cup winner - Bernard Diomede. The only match I could remember he was playing - against the Lion in Kallang Stadium, 2001. He played only 1st half, or was it 2nd half.

Do u think we will rate Gerrard/Fowler as a Liverpool legend, or Diomede who has a world cup medal ?

Do u think MU fans will rate Keane as a MU legend, or Blomquikst or Phil Neveille as a MU legend, who both had EPL and CL medal ??

finally we can conclude this long drawn out saga. morientes is gonna be a good signing. he's strong, skillful and a good finisher with loads of experience. i think he should have no problem settling into the premiership. just hope the team can learn to play together.

keane was banned after the 2nd leg of semi-final CL 1999. That''s why he could not play for the final and thus not getting any medal.

If Pelle could show his quality during his partnership wiht Ayala to win La Liga and Morientes could fire for LFC as the way he claimed the top CL scorer last season...I am sure this season we would finish at 3rd place. Above MU.

i think he even needs to sell some of the current players...especially those on loan...But I would tkae Diarra back for a trial. This guy had made himself into the French national team. he play as Defensive Midfielder. May be he can study under Hamann...as Gerrard studied under Macca during 2000/2001 how to pass , direct the flow and freekick/corner...

If we finish 4th and qualify for next year CL..then we have no improvement from GH to RB...and after spending so much this season.

They are toothless tiger after the purchase of Rooney..and Smith.

Look at the current table..it is amazing that Liverpool had so far scored more goals than MU..not to forget that we lost Cisse (he only play 10 matches) and Baros (miss at least 5 EPL games)..and we have to rely on Mellor and Signama for so many games.

andy johnson from everton? you mean gravesen? he would be a good catch but i doubt they would let him cross the mersey like that. more likely sell him to other clubs if they have no choice. anyway, not sure how is the state of our finances now. moro cost us more than we had originally planned and unless we sell some players, we may not have enough cash in the kitty to buy even indra shahdan.
sigh, as much i hate selling the clubs soul for cash, i do sometimes wish we have someone willing to finance us......
