Yeah 1st 2 seasons houllier is good but 1/2 way thru, dunno whys suddenly everything goes downhill. and he took LFC for 5 seasons?..... and he never reach top of EPL. Well if you say he's good.... then i'll give him only an "OK" rating based on his overall performance.

Owen world class?.......over rated them

Houllier won 5 trophies for us and u only rate him as "ok"..then u have to rate Rafa as "not ok".

Owen world class ? Suddenly. Who else understand European footballer better than UEFA. UEFA awarded Owen as PLayer of the year when he was just 24. UEFA certain has a point, pls dun tell us that u understand football more than UEFA.

Liverpool also need 1 goal to qualify. But of course, if we concede 1 goal..then it will be a mountain to climb.

I think now Liverpool has an upper hand. Liverpool player do have a higher morale than Chelsea player.

Cant compare 5 seasons with just 1 season....we shd rate Rafa after 3 seasons.....Houllier just couldnt buy good players after his first season..

So what about 5 trophies .. is the consistency that counts....
then with the $$ houllier spent and the returns he got for LFC?... not justifiable. silverware is not as prestiges as champions titles....
for such short period Rafa bring back LFC from a low morale state to now.....can houllier do that? thinks he does the opposite

im not telling all... just u ..... UEFA have their reasons ..but that was the past ... if a player does not have consistency then its as good as an average player..... see Ryan giggs .... he quite old ... but he maintain consistence thru-out since his days in MUFC youth till recently (maybe age catching up) but he can maintain his form for much longer than Owen. There are many more player better than owen .... shawn right philips is 1 good player... yet no awards ..yet ... u say he's not a good player? .... dun follow reports ... have ur own opinion and judge by ur own eyes pls

In short houllier is a flop himself after his heart surgery. lucky he have left LFC for good :bsmilie:

ya rafa just started ....shd judge him after few more seasons..... but i bet he'll do better than houllier (trophiess ....so what...collect water only)

I think 0-0 at Stamford Bridge was a fairly good result. I definitely think Liverpool will play better at Anfield. :)

Judging from my eyes, I thought Owen is good leh. I thought this season alone proved what an asset Owen had been for us. Hmm.. trophies not just for collecting water lah.. its what measures a football club. Agree that championship trophy is more valuable though.. :D Wong_se, show your stats! :D

btw, where you read the figo news from?

but that did not mean that Houllier had won few trophies with Liverpool and deserved to be named as a bad manager either.

and Rafa had won us nothing and he truely deserve to be much better manager than Houllier ???

in short... a manager had won FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup, Super League, Charity Shield is a flop, and Rafa who so far won nothing is da best.. - we call this "prejudice".

Jellyfish said:
then with the $$ houllier spent and the returns he got for LFC?...

u want to talk about facts with me ? Dun u know that I am well know here as stats expert ? hahahaa...here I come with some tables..

Manager P W D L F A %
Bill Shank 783 407 198 178 1307 766 51.98%
Bob Paisley 535 307 132 96 955 406 57.38%
Joe Fagan 131 70 37 24 225 97 53.44%
Kenny Dalglish 307 187 78 42 617 259 60.91%
Ronnie Moran 10 4 1 5 20 16 40.00%
Graeme Souness 157 65 47 45 248 186 41.40%
Roy Evans 226 116 57 53 375 216 51.33%
Evans / Houllier 18 7 6 5 33 20 38.89%
Gerard Houllier 307 158 75 74 516 298 51.47%
Rafael Benitez 55 27 10 18 74 48 49.09%

(Matches that are won or lost in a penalty shoot-out are counted as a draw in those numbers.)

My Question : based on this %..what make u label Houllier as a flop and Rafa da best . I am not saying tha Rafa is not good..but I would rate Houllier highly. Souness and Evan had won nothing for us...da best only league cup..they were really the flop.

again...u want some stats of money invested by houllier ?

ok..here comes with the stats...

When Houllier took ove from Evan, he only had 3 effective player with him at that time which could do a decent job, Fowler, injured Redknapp, and Berger.

During his 5 year spell with LFC, players bought by Gerard Houllier 40 players, spend 125,400,000. If we exclude Cisse, it will be 110,900,000. Player sold = 60, 675,000 in total (owen is not included in the list), Total spending 50.225m

and we won...FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Cup, Charity Shield, Super Cup, 3 times playing in CL. (not to forget it was his effort that made the team qualify for CL this year)

Even we drop out from the 1st phase of CL..we would get around 10m. 3 times playing CL = 30m.

Not to mention..he developed Owen for Rafa to sell him to return for 8m. And the squad we have Baros and Gerrad, of which we can sell together for big money.

Jellyfish,I would like to see how u defend yourself. Remember stats are fact. U must have some other stats that u know but we dun and thus, u called Houllier as a flop. Pls kindly share with us.

hahaaa....this is the joke of the day. if a player does not have consistency..then he is just as an average player ??? !!!!!

Player normally have a career about 15 years. Pls tell me which player has been consistently good for 15 years ?

The answer is - no.

Zidande ? average player - he sucked in Euro 2000 and he could not helped the french to qualify world cup 1994.

Keane ? average player - his form drop now. he can;t maintain consistency.

Even Maradona and Pele sucked...they did not do well int the last 2 years before they retired from player...

Then....in this world..there is no good player.

Your conclusion is far most interesting since this thread had started.

as long as Pelle play (both at home and away), we concede a goal or 2".

we kept a clean sheet playing against Juventus and Chelsea. There 2 teams are much stronger in attack compared to Tottenham (2-2) and Crystal Palace (0-1).

Tonite we play M'boro. Team in full...

Dudek
Finnan
Carragher
Pellegrino
Warnock
Riise
Alonso
Gerrard
Nunez
Kewell
Morientes

Subs

Carson
Hyypia
Cisse
Garcia
Hamann

Again Pelle is playing. So I firmly believe we would concede a goal.

With both Gerrard and Alonso in the midfield, hope we can score more than we concede, in order to get 3 points.

anyone still want to defend Pelle ? the match started just less than 10mins. Pelle is slow..certainly no where near Hyyia standard, so what he had experince playing in La Liga and UEFA. This is EPL...

even blind will blame him for the goal we conceded.

whats wrong with liverpool?? Maybe Wong Se is right. Pelle should be banned from Anfield!! ****!! Fulham is doing Liverpool a favour by leading Everton 2 nil at half time and Liverpool is not capitalising it!! What the hell is wrong with LIVERPOOL!!!????

dextorian said:

My stats proven Pelle is the culprit has always been right. No one believe me.

And again before the match, when I see Pelle playing, I already knew we will concede a goal. During 35min..we conceded a corner. The ball just dropped of form Pelle chest....lucky no Boro player was there to capitalise the opportunity. Pelle really sucked.

and we all know the result..we all see how we conceded the goal.

Anyway, We did play well...that;s why we score 1 goal..

but I believe the attacking line up is not the ideal for Liverpool. I had said at his reputation....Morientes is way below average. he had not scored for ages. And Cisse is always playing as out and out striker. he should play the role for Morientes. I dun understand why he is played as RM.

 i slept after the first half.

i'm just terribly confused at the selection of pellegrino.

Yes... Pelle is at fault for the goal.

However, it still does not justify that we shd play so poorly at home. We did not creat much chances up front. If not for Gerrard's wonder goal, we would ahve lost the match.

Good thing is that Kewell played full match and relatively well. Morientes does not look good... i think he has not scored for many matches...

me beginning to wonder if Whitbread can perform better than Pelle. Pelle has used up all this 'benefits of doubt'.

Sigh.. EPL is over, lets concentrate on Champions League now...
