I totally agree about the stupid GH couter-attacking style.

that stupid counter attack style won us FA Cup, 2XLeague Cup, UEFA Cup, Super Cup, Charity Shield, 3 qualifying status to play Champion League and once finish 2nd in EPL (all time highest in EPL)

those team (ie..newcastle, chelsea, etc.etc...) who can;t win that much as we did in that 5 years (1999-2004)....what shall I call do..Moron Team, idiot style, lanchiokuku kampung soccer style ??

I know what u are trying to say. I question because I am not sure it was a lay-off. I only see the highlight from the news...at blink I tot he played a dummy..did not touch the ball at all..

Ok fine...a lay off, 1 assist-on-goal. U had summed it all for me..

How many assist on goal he had produced ???

If he is a good striker for LFC (so far in the last 6 months) based on the numbers of goal scored and assist on goal......then heskey would be the world best striker liao...

Good point u had made there. As people underestimate the importance of heskey ability of holding targetmen and deep-lying strikers.

heskey's contributions cannot be measured in goals alone (even it is to be measured in goals alone, he scored 60goals for 4 years), the way he ghosts in space to create options for Owen helps break down defences. Very often his unselfish play in dragging defenders wide or playing intelligent flick-ons is what leads to a goal, but the credit goes to the goalscorer instead...

heskey had done what u had mentioned , and yet scored 60 goals 4 years or 15 goals a season.....but still a flop to many people.

Morientes who has yet to do what u had mentioned, but could not scored 15 goals a season...u tell me what shall we call him ? "Flopper" ?

It wasn't a dummy, the ball came from the left to the right, and Nando laid it back to the left in the middle of the pen box like a golf ball ready for Gerrard to ram it into the bottom corner.

Hallo, Morientes been there for half a season and you call him a flop? You must be looking for people who 1st season in EPL score 30 goals. Let me know when you find such a person. Even Pires was a nobody in his first EPL season and now he is undisputed as a top player in Arsenal's squad. I'm not saying Nando will excel in EPL. I'm saying stop calling him a flop until we have a couple of seasons to judge him. When the team is in transition and rebuilding, there will not be the understanding between strikers and the rest of the team that comes from years playing together (Owen-Gerrard, Henry-Vieira, etc). If the service is weak, of course the strikers can't score.

And Heskey was VERY effective as part of a team with Michael Owen. He was rated a flop because without Owen, he can't do much - keeps missing sitters and falling on his ass when trying shoot (a bit like Traore, but not so bad). Under GH's system, most goals come from the strikers on the fast break. Under Benitez, goals come from all over, as he favours having a variety of attacking options across the field. So even if Heskey were still here, he would not get as many goals because Rafa doesn't favour the long-ball-punt style as a main option, only as a secondary means of scoring. Using the 15-goals a season statistic is misleading. It's the overall result that counts. Heskey's goal tally came when GH was playing counter attacking. Once he tried to switch to a proper attacking style, Heskey's goals dried up. That shows a one-dimensional player. Very good (perhaps) at what he does, but can only do it one way. Once people figure out how to defend against him, he can't score because he doesn't have the footballing brain to adapt his style or create new options for himself on the pitch.

those teams did not have Owen, Fowler, Gerrard, Berger, Carragher, Hyypia (in his prime), Hamann, etc. All top players and established internationals. And yes, some teams do play idiot style (Blackburn Rovers comes to mind).

This is Chelsea before Mourinho and Abramovich.

"Super Cup"? "Charity Shield"? You actually consider those real trophies? No wonder you are so in love with Houllier and Heskey. Yes, 2x league cup. Let's brag about that too.

I guess Benitez winning Champs League, UEFA Cup and Spanish title twice in three seasons isn't much. Go Houllier! Let's have more footbore!

Gerrard and Riise not very good at corners and free kicks unless it's direct shot on goals.. Same goes for Hamann... The one with real finesse in the past is Murphy, rem how he scores curling freekicks against Man U? Alonso is pretty handy...

I still think we can improved much.. Both in terms of delivery and finishes.. not just from freekick and corners but crosses as well. I think Zenden will definitely improve things as well as Kewell, if he's fit.

I love the way Riise and Murphy just kept banging in free kicks against Man U. Barthez always had that "OMG what was that" look on his face :bsmilie:

Kewell, if he's fit. Ahahahahahaahahahahahahahha. Like saying water, if its dry. :sticktong

Heskey scored 11 goals at Birm City last season. Dunno about the number of assists though. When was the last time Heskey played for England?

Newcastle has loaned their butt to Birm City. Sounny with his revolution.

If you looked at the teams then, In terms of team strength, i would rank it Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and then Chelsea... Thats why GH should finish 3rd each year...finish 2nd means good, finish 4th mean no good.. simple right?

One minor correction, Rafa do like to use tall striker.. like Carew in Valencia... But i agree with most of the things you mentioned abt Heskey etc.

yah, but carew was just one of many options, not the main way to get goals. Aimar ran most of the offence, and it was all about fast, aggressive passing football to bring the team and the ball quickly up the field. We are seeing more of that now, actual passing football. Last time, whenever you watched LFC v Arsenal games, we would not be able to touch the ball at all, but when we did get a tackle in, you would see someone hoof the ball upfield and let owen/heskey chase it down. Sad.

graeme sadness has big plans for the club, excluding the 2-1 loss last night!

the players on their list; jenas, emre, parker, dyer, shearer... these are good players! think they can build around their midfield. but they haf titanium brittle as their CenterBack. feel sad for them. he's like a time-bomb about to go off anytime soon!

maybe he can try partnering titanium with shearer upfront :p

no brain to adapt into new career ?? yes loh..no brain at all..only scored 10 EPL goals with Birmingham.

Liverpool baros..no brain also..probably no lanpar to score only 9.

Arsenal Reyes even worst, cost 15m yet to score 9.

Drogba cost us 25m..also scored only 10 EPL goals...totally wasted the money

Our God Fowler also no brain..find a new clun MAn City..absolutely disgusting to see him no brain to score only 10 EPL goals.

yes..only if he is fit. Now his nick name is Tampax Kew. 1 week in 3 week out.

Last time, whenever you watched LFC v Arsenal games, we would not be able to touch the ball at all, but when we did get a tackle in, you would see someone hoof the ball upfield and let owen/heskey chase it down. Sad.

as long as we won it..who care how did we do it ? even if we seldom touch the ball.

GH stupid counter attack style..get everyone to bump the ball up and let the mickey to chase. It is the strategy to " maximum utilise your strength to explore your opponent weakest link."

In the Fa Cup, the aging Dixon and Tony adams were slow...speed were their weakest..we used owen speed to destroy them. Smart we were..thus rewarded with FA Cup.

I dun see it stupid..As long as we won it.

Rafa smart passing style ....last time when we played Arsenal in EPL ....could u remember the scoreline ? I turn off the TV after half time...I could only remember we were totally out played by gunners in the 1st half.

of course I expect there would be resoponse saying that "the team in transition, rebuilding, injuries " bla bla bla.

I am not comparing the manager quality here..I emphasize that as long as we win..who care whether we touched the ball..who care whether we play passing or counter attack.

even brazil is playing to win..not to entertain anymore.

baros scored 13... 9 in league(from 26 appearances) 1 assist
reyes scored 12... 9 in league(from 25 apperances) 10 assists
heskey scored 11.. 10 in league(from 34 appearances) 3 assists

Fowler.. don't have exact breakdown... total 11 goals... 10 goals EPL?(wong_se)
from total 33 apperances

Fowler 5 assists

not stupid. but boring.
but it became stupid eventually.

:) when's the next 'LIVE' game for LIVERPOOL>?>>??

"Footbore" is the right term to use to describe Houllier's Liverpool!

You know I used to be a BIG Liverpool supporter in the Ray Kennedy/Phil Thompson/Dalglish days all the way to the Ian Rush period. One big reason was that they played beautiful short passing football and no one, not even Man U were doing so then. They were a delight to watch with their clever, deliberate passing game, played with a typical British doggedness. They were the first "continental" style English team, played with no fear and could take on any of the top continental teams and beat them most of the time. That to me is still the Liverpool that I think of when I hear the name.

When I watched the Houllier teams, I was saying to myself "WTF?" It's like they're the same as any boring fart English team with their long passing game and run here run there style. Which was most ironic given that the manager is French.

You wait and see. Lyon will perish under Houllier.........

And don't forget, way back before they won the WC 1998, France failed to qualify for the WC by the dumbest margin under GH as well.
