I clone away the BBC headline..... :embrass:

There is no Prime Minister in the UEFA committee..and I believe the President speak all. I did believe Liverpool would play CL next season, and I am still believing they will...

Attached is the latest statement from UEFA president Lennart Johansson.

LONDON, June 7 - UEFA president Lennart Johansson wants Liverpool to defend their Champions League trophy as European soccer's ruling body prepares to vote on the issue.
Johansson told BBC radio on Tuesday that UEFA's executive committee will arrange a telephone conference in the next few days, with members voting on whether Liverpool will be allowed in next season's competition after their win over AC Milan.
Under current rules, Liverpool's fifth-placed finish in the Premier League means they have qualified only for the much less prestigious UEFA Cup.
Asked if he was in favour of Liverpool being allowed in the Champions League, Johansson said: "Yes, I am...but I want people to know that they are free to have their own opinion when they are voting.
"I think that a champion should, as in all other sport, have the possibility to defend its title."
Johansson said he favoured allowing the Merseysiders into the qualifying rounds. The 14-member committee, of which he is a member, would be given background on all the options available.
Executive committee members will be contacted on Tuesday to set a time and date for the teleconference.
"One decision is about what will happen in the future," Johansson said. "The main decision will be about Liverpool.
"I hope and I trust that it will be a decision which will be accepted by all parties because we have the ambition, on the one hand, to give Liverpool the opportunity to defend their title and, on the other hand, to see that no-one suffers from such a decision."
Though there are three qualifying rounds to the money-spinning Champions League, English clubs have so far only joined in the final round.
Johansson said Liverpool's title defence should start "from the very beginning, in my opinion". "They have to go through all the competition."
Liverpool were trailing Milan 3-0 at halftime in last month's final in Istanbul before scoring three times in six minutes and securing the club's fifth European Cup in a penalty shoot-out.

onz la!! that's the way to go president!!!

Only if the committee able to come out a new rule for the defending champ. They can not just has a special treatment for this time round. If they can come out a new rule, then Liverpool will has a great chance to be in the next year CL!!!!!!

I wonder why they can't ? They are the committee for UEFA. and Champion League is their competition organised by them. They set the rule.

if any one who do not like their rule..they can boycott and walk out from the game and not to participate.

anway..there are so many posts in these thread saying that to allow Liverpool in and in the expense of Everton is not fair.

indeed..i won't even bother to look at and discuss whether it is fair or not.

Because I believe UEFA know how to think outside the box and find a solution to let both Liverpool abd Everton to have the chance to play for the next year CL. may be Liverpool has to go into 3rd round of qualifying game rather than walk into straight into the Group stage.

And I predict that Everton will be knocked off from the qualifying round and can not proceed to the 1st stage. While Liverpool will succeed to march on.

I had made this prediction 2 weeks ago.

hehehehe actually there is no such thing as fair or not fair lah.... but then hor... if liverpool take everton place... sure got riot in liverpool.... future derby will never be the same...

let's take away man utd's place instead

AbramoRICH had bumped lots of $ into Chelsea. His priority is football success and the trophy.

Moore had not bumped (comparatively) lots of $ into Liverpool. His priority is football success and the trophy.

Glazer had used lots of $ to buy MU....so far not any $ bumped into MU. But for sure, his priority is to have more return of $.

moore has invested heavily into Liverpool's clause over the years without seeing much success. pretty much like freddy shepherd of newcastle.

nope, dun think so that glazer has lots of $$ in the first place.
just managed to secure some loans from some banks to finance the purchase of man utd pte.ltd.

so, maybe, man utd will become an empty shell in time to come. no longer the fearsome and rich man utd it once was.

Heh, why not take away Chelsea's place instead for

1) having a loud-mouth coach who always antagonize UEFA officals
2) attempting to bring the game into disrepute - forcing referee into early retirement
3) attempting to sign Ashley Cole illegally
4) attempting to bring chaos to Spurs by tempting their sporting director Frank Arnesen illegally
5) the fact that even if they won the Champion's leage, they would never be able to provide the kind of entertainment and passion Liverpool could at the finals since they would just be buying their way to the title like they did with the EPL

hmmmm... I dare not even thnik of that... you know in England what millwall fans and chelsea fans are famous for? Hooliganism.... antaganize them and we will see worse riots than clashes between liverpool and everton fans

actually, the intense rivalry between liverpool and everton fans are not that bad as compared to liverpool and man utd fans. its intense, no doubt. but not that 'violent' ala maybe Gooners and Hotcakes.

if you want violent derby rivalries, take a look at AC Milan and Internazionale.

perhaps 'sibling rivalry' is a more 'apt' description. ke ke ke

lokomotiv chelski has all the ££££ and it would be suicidal on a business side of the game not to keep them in the CL. besides, what they've committed is not really such a heinous crime. it just cast their integrity into serious doubt.

in today's game, what price is integrity or loyalty worth????

much less 'kissing of the club's crest' upon scoring a goal...

Com'on YOU REDS!!!!!!!

Liverpool has another Champion League Final coming this Friday morning...UK time.

But this time..the ball is not in our court.

"UEFA's executive committee are set to hold a telephone conference, during which they will discuss whether or not to change their rules and permit England to be represented by five teams in next season's competition.

UEFA chief Lennart Johnansson is on Liverpool's side and believes a solution should be found to allow the champions to defend their title, although his view is that the Reds should enter the competition in the qualifying rounds, which begin on July 12.

He said: "We have the ambition on the one hand to give Liverpool the opportunity to defend their title, but on the other hand we need to make sure no one suffers from such a decision.

"In my opinion, Liverpool should be in from the very beginning. But I want people to know they are free to have their own opinion.

"We have a situation that was unforeseen. Consequently we have to make a decision about the future and then deal with Liverpool.

"But I think the champions - as in all other sports - should have the chance to defend their title."

UEFA spokesman William Gaillard has confirmed he expects a final decision to be reached by the executive committe on Friday morning."
