My hope is that both liverpool and everton should be in the CL next year. Everton deserves it and it is absurd that the defending champions cannot defend their title. UEFA made a mistake when they set up the rules and left out a place for the champs.
I mean, we beat Juve, chelsea and milan for goodness sake. and the manner which we beat milan, we entirely deserved our place.
Should leave chelsea out of it for having a loudmouth as a coach :bsmilie:
Reduce a place for other leagues or increase the number of teams by one more to balance it but the champs must be in. actually i kinda feel the bundesliga is overated and would not have had the number of CL places they have if it wasn't for some serious lobbying on their side.

Did any of you notice that Salif Diao was together with the team celebrating their Champions League Final victory? Anybody knows what the conditions are to receive a medal? I know he played in some games during the stage phase, and Stephan Henchoz played in the qualifying round as well.

salif diao and stephane henchoz, no. they were removed from the team list somewhere during the 2nd stage, i believe, when they were off loaded.
at least that's the way it is in CM!!!

Gerrard.
We played so badly and conceded 3 goals..i dun think many of us here believe that we can fight back.
But Gerrard ..the X factor.
We need 3 goals against Olympiakos..and 3 goals against AC MIlan.
It was the captain, Gerrard who lift up the team spirit and his strong determination to fight for the victory.
Although many argue that we can go on withouth owen, so we should able to go on without gerrard too. That is wrong.

Jerzy Dudek: Jerzy has played in nine of the 14 games leading up to the final and has kept four clean sheets, with two of those coming away at Juventus and Chelsea. Dudek has been safe and steady throughout Liverpool's Champions League campaign and has made some crucial saves along the way.
Steve Finnan: The Republic of Ireland international has had a very consistent season and has played in 13 out of Liverpool's 14 Champions League games. Finnan started the campaign playing right side midfield before returning to right back where he has been outstanding.
Jamie Carragher: Liverpool's player of the season has played in every game in the Champions League and has been a rock solid and immense figure. He was inspirational against Juventus and Chelsea and has enhanced his reputation in Europe this season.
Sami Hyypia: Like Jamie Carragher Sami Hyypia has played in every Champions League game this season. He has also been a rock solid figure alongside Carragher and scored a memorable goal along the way too. His volley against Juventus at Anfield was just fantastic.
Djimi Traore: Djimi Traore has been a revelation for Liverpool in the Champions League and has played in nine of the 14 games leading up to the final. His last ditch tackles under pressure have been a real highlight during the matches.
Josemi: Josemi made his Liverpool debut in the qualifier in Grazer AK and has played in seven out of the 14 games leading up to the final. One of Josemi's best games was the 2-0 win over Monaco at Anfield when he helped set up a goal for Milan Baros with a long searching pass.

Warnock made his Liverpool debut as an 80th minute substitute for Steven Gerrard during the qualifier in Graz. He then started in Olympiacos but his most memorable game was away in Bayer Leverkusen. Fans will remember Warnock having a storming game and throwing himself into a tackle in stoppage time to stop the Germans scoring.

With Liverpool needing to scored two goals in the last 12 minutes against Olympiacos Rafael Benitez sent on Mellor. Within two minutes of coming on he was first to react to a loose ball and score at the Kop end. Then with four minutes remaining Mellor beautifully directed a header into the path of Steven Gerrard who did the rest to send Anfield ecstatic. Mellor also started during the defeat in Monaco and had a late goal harshly disallowed for a foul leading up to his effort.
Florent Sinama-Pongolle: Flo turned the Olympiacos game in Liverpool's favour on that never to be forgotten night at Anfield. Coming on as a half-time substitute for Djimi Traore within a minute he equalised at the Kop end. Sinama-Pongolle also provided the cross that led to Neil Mellor's goal and caused absolute havoc to the Greek defence. Sinama-Pongolle played in four of Liverpool's 14 matches leading up to the final.
Igor Biscan: Igor Biscan has been sensational in the Champions League for Liverpool and he has really shown everyone how good he can be. what a season! we had so many ups and downs. the final match epitomised our season. black depression for many parts, a nail-biting conclusion and then ending in sheer blinding joy.
kudos to all who had played in a liverpool shirt (yes, even diao and pellegrino). in particular, carra is my man of the season. stevie gerrard, xabi alonso,sami hyypia, riise and hamann had particularly shone for me this season as well. and dudek too. howlers aside, he had also saved us on many occassions this season.
xabi is a gem. look at the finals itself, i think he had the most passes among the liverpol players and commited the most tackles. in him and gerrard, we have two of the most complete midfielders in the world.
my hope is that we can work on our consistency for next season. for one, the forwards need to take up the goalscoring burden from our midfielders. and i hope we can unearth more promising younsters who can take up the red jersey and made it their own. CL win was great but we must not forget that we are not yet the class of manutd or chelsea. to achieve that, we need more quality and to be more consistent. my fingers are crossed!
btw, "Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has vowed to support Rafael Benitez with a multi-million pound summer spending spree as he bids to make the club a force at home as well as abroad."
