as for the team's progress and lack of goals...
Cisse scores and that is nice. :) perhaps we need more goals from the team and of course, winning 2-0 against this opposition is not good enough. a team of second stringers might be the reason why we failed to score more goals.

just finding an excuse. ha!

ah cake, u did not quite get me. The team is not "lack of goals". The problem is that the strikers do not score enough. And the scoring burden rely too much on Gerrard.

Souness and king Dalglish were both once a very good LFC midfielder. Ask them what they should be doing the best on the field ?

None of them in any season out score the season top scorer. Not because Souness or Dalglish was no good and could not score. but a good and balanced team always have good striker and other strikers who worked the role on scoring.

Look at the current stats... 11 goals in 4 European matches

Gerrard - 7
Cisse - 3 (good to see him scoring, hope he can give us 20 league goal a season)
Carra - 1

Liverpool struggles to beat minnows Kaunas. But then RB made eight changes to the starting line up from that of last week. Haha maybe if Baros was playing there would be more goals. Good to see Cisse scoring and momo having a good game. I think we have a deadly trio in Sissoko Alonso and Stevie G.

Yes...glad to see that 13m of investment is getting some return.

Momo is a strong man and physically fit. If he can gain more experience (llike the way Hamann read and intercept the flow) and tackle like Gerrard/Vieri...he will be as scary as Gerrard to any team who play against us. Momo is bought as a replacement for Biscan and soon to take over the role from hamman.

btw..we will sign Hobbs. A tall youngest playing as CD. Good buy I would say.
It is not expensive (even turn to a flop, did not waste much like $ wasted on Diao) , tall, has talent, and make us to have another home grown talent after 3 years when the rule applies. Hopefully he can partner Whitebred in the reserve game..to buid the understanding..and later do us another Hyypia+Carra kinda of performance.

Ya. Although i am a Man UTd fan, its kinda crazy isn't it? If Owen joins, total 7 strikers? Gotta sell at least one or 2 if not cannot balance the books. Maybe Smith will convert to holding midfield role. Sell Bellion and Saha if Owen joins. I rather he dun join. I very much prefer RVN and Rooney.

BUT, Owen is still a world class striker and has the quality. If not how can he be England's no 1 striker? Only Liverpool fans hate him cos they felt that Owen played them out. I can understand that too. Kenna play out is like being stab in the heart.

It is still only rumoured. I think not many Man Utd fans are thrilled by the news.
Apparently, Man U is waiting to see if they can sell Saha to Monaco....before committing on buying Owen. If price the same, Owen will go to Man U instead of Newcastle as he's that shameless!

1) Yes, Definately. The question is how often ?
2) Our defence is solid. But dun have enough cover for both CD.
3) From keeper, midfielder, and striker. Yes. we do have a large squad. But not for the CD. of course, that subjected to a minor injuries/broken leg we will have. Again. having large squad and having quality in the reserve team is another story.
When i hear that crouch was injured... my mind just goes "Oh no, not again!" Keeping my fingers and all my toes crossed that we do not have any serious injuries this year.

yes, i noticed that the strikers are not banging in the goals. esp. fernando morientes.
even in my FM2005, fernando morientes is a nightmare infront of goal. he just couldn't score but notch up quite a fair bit of assists. ha!

its all about form. class is permanent. i'd rather the strikers having a lean spell now then to see them having a drought near the middle or towards the end of the season. hopefully they'll hit form once the season gets underway which is in 2 weeks time? ;)

next opponent for the CL is CSKA MOSCOW?? :)

You want a side bet? I bet Gerrard will not be the top scorer for us in EPL... Dun worry, i think Cisse, Morientes and Crouch will provide the bulk of our goals...

Not CSKA MOscow lah... i think is CSKA Sofia of bulgaria....kinda like their national team already if i am not wrong so may not be easy. But it's not confirm as they hold a 2-0 lead with 2nd leg tonight

You know, to many players and clubs, now is still preseason. Maybe the strikers have preseason hang over. :bsmilie:

I know Morientes is "the class". As I always say...Class is permanent, form is temporary.

But u can lose your class permanetly too. Look at Kewell...

Read the post match analyse..Moreintes and Crouch did not look any dangerous at all. How can it be ? PLaying at home...and the striking pair of Defending European Champion did seldom threat to FBK...This is not acceptable.

They have to rely on the sub - Captain Gerrard to break the deak lock.

Cisse ? He better start banging in lots of goals.

Heskey cost us 11m and scored 60 goals in 4 years - is a flop.

Cisse at 13m..even if he score 71 goals in 4 years (13*60/11) , he is also a flop.

To avoid to be a flop, he has to score at least more than 71 goals in 4 years.

ok..he broke his leg last year, then last year not count. Starting from 2005-2009, >71 goals.

I don't get it. RB makes EIGHT changes to the team in a almost-academic match with the league just around the corner and people are saying that we "struggled to beat Kaunas"?? Get the priorities right, Rafa has already said to win the league is the highest priority this season. Gerrard himself admitted it is the one trophy missing from his personal collection. He also said that the CL qualifiers are being treated like pre-season friendlies, except the game is quicker.

We should cut the team some slack lah, it's so easy to sit here in our comfy chairs demanding "goals, goals, goals", and complaining when the team "only" wins 2-0. The season hasn't begun you want people to get injuries or start peaking in August? They are conserving themselves and building fitness gradually through these games. I'd rather this result against Kaunas than we win 9-0 and lose Cisse for another season due to some freak collision or something.

And also people keep saying how Crouch can't score. The guy's played TWO games for LFC. C'mon, that's like saying if Henry doesn't score in consecutive games he sucks. Plus, he wasn't bought to score against European opposition. He was brought in to unlock tough english defences which are physical and good at cutting out crosses. Wait until we are about five or six games into the league before you judge him. Don't forget he has to adjust to a new team and the team has to adjust to him to be able to deliver the kind of service which is best for his style of play.

IT IS STILL PRE-SEASON!!!!!

YNWA

Actually I think besides number of goals we have to also look at frequency of scoring and scoring against who.... no point scoring 30 goals a season but then all the goals is against non league clubs in FA cup. but if cisse can score like 20 goals a season but most of his goals is match winners against teams like chelski, man utd, asernal... Oh yes and everton.... then I would consider him a success..... better to win 1-0 in all matches than to win 10-0 and lose the next few matches....

If Momo is as good as he seems to be thus far, he will be better than Hamann... something like Makelele in fact. Which leads me to suspect that in crucial games, e.g. vs Chelsea or Arsenal, you might actually see Alonso and Momo holding the centre, covering the defence and initiating the offense, while Gerrard will be given a free role behind a central striker, perhaps Cisse or even Crouch.

Apparently RB's most successful formation at Valencia was 4-2-3-1, which he could do here at LFC with Zenden, Gerrard and Garcia/Gonzales as the three attacking midfielders.

not me lah. I want Liverpool to win 38 EPL games with 1-0. at the end of the season...we have 38W, 0 Draw, 0 Lose. 38 goals and conceded 0.

I dun care what is the scoreline as long as we win.

Yes..it is not easy to sit down and ask for goals. But did u know that who pay for the player wages ? it is those who sit down and ask for goals. AS long as u pay, u have the right to ask for that.

this is what the chinese say..."got money, contribute money. Got enery, contribute energy".

If I were to choose players for 4-2-3-1

Keeper - so far Reina did not show us much whathe can do. So, either Reina or Dudek
Defender - Finnan, hyypia, Carra, Riise
Defensive Mid - Alonso, hamann
Attacking - Zenden, Gerrard, Garica/Gonzales
Striker - Cisse

Jose and Rafa can really introduce some extra elements into EPL after almost all the team playing 4-4-2.

aiyah that's like saying because you pay taxes, you can anyhow ask the govt to build an mrt station next to your house.

there are other, more important, considerations in a proper pre-season rather than just banging in goals for the fans to clap clap and win money in bets. I say again: PRE-SEASON.

for EPL..yes..it is pre season..

For European competition...the season had started.

If LFC management objective is NOT to score goal, win match nor win trophy...then I would say supporter ( who pay ticket, subscribe for tv rights to watch LFC) should not demand goals and trophies as well..

Playing morientes and crouch... is not a good combo.. Both are not fast enough and are quite similar. I am not surprise at how well Crouch & Cisse linked up.. 1big 1 small doesn;t apply only to 4d but also to strike force combo as well.. see how Koeller and Baros linked up... or even Heskey and Owen.

Honestly, at this point in time and as you have mentioned, still consider preseason, as long as we win and progress, no pt talking abt how scores etc....

yupz, always prefer one striker running onto through balls with one heading it on and holding it up.

morientes looks very much the skilful and strong striker who can lay up and hold up the play for team mates. maybe that's why he can't score much goals.
as for crouch, not that sure yet. only know that he's an excellent header of the ball. :)

cisse will have a very good strike ratio this season, that i'm very positive and sure of. :)
