To add on..Rafa star players to
win CL are actually those from Houllier regime like Dudek, Carra, Finnan, Traore, Hamann, Smicer, Gerrard, Cisse (signed by oullier), Baros, Kewell, Biscan, (despite of Alonso) which all went on to play for Rafa.
Whether Houllier failed to bring their potential..I dun look at it.
But I do see that Houllier left a good squad for Rafa to work on.
It is true that Houllier left a big group of players that Rafa use. This is expected as this is the case for most 1st yr mgr, as the same case with Ranieri and Mourhino.
However, if you look at the players performance this year compared with last year... I think there's a great difference.
Dudek, Hamann, Hyypia, Smicer and Gerrard probably played at same level. Traore, Finnan, Biscan and Baros most definitely played better than any of their season in liverpool.
As for Cisse, he was out almost the whole season and did not play a part in both League Cup and CL campaigne. Similarly, Kewell most definitely played worse than last year when he began the season very well.
Also not forgetting the fact that we sold off our top scorer Owen, 2nd scorer Heskey, one of our top midfielder Murphy ( or is it last season? old liaoz), our african player of the year (Diouf) and yet last season we reach UEFA cup 1/8 final and now CL Champion.
Thats why i say Rafa is better than Houllier at least in Europe. Rem we were kick out of CL by Basel? Lost in UEFA to bucharest etc?

Kudos to Houllier, and Rafa. but for Souness , I :sticktong .
if u are newcastle fans..u will also :sticktong Souness.
Can u imagine he can turn Newscastle to finish 15th ?
BTw..so far we had released so many players...yet to sign any.
and we have to submit our squad for UEFA for the CL qualifying matches..This is a bit worrying.
and the sicknote-Kewell is still on the injury list...
Yes.. I hated Souness for his stupid transfer dealings that saddled liverpool with mediocre players. In his 2 seasons, we finished 6th and 8th in EPL and did not win anything. His only saving grace? Introducing Fowler at the end of his reign.
As for Evans, believe it or not, he's more successful in league and CL qualification than Houllier (if you take into account the rule change by UEFA on no. of qualifiers.) Under Evans, we finished 4th, 3rd, 4th & 3rd. We would have qualified for CL every season. This also proved my point that Houllier took over a team thats consistently was top 3 or 4 in EPL. Fowler was then the no. 1 striker for most of the 1st 3 seasons. He scored 25, 28 and 18 league goals... then owen came along.
The last season Evan had, Liverpool decided to change things up and challenge for the title and hire Houllier as joint mgr, which turns out to be disastrous.. imagine reporting to 2 bosses? We finished 7th..
